SUNDAY MAY 5TH  Third Sunday of Easter

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

 Introduction

This morning, with other disciples, we meet Jesus on the shore of the lake. A new day dawns bringing with it new hope, assurance of the resurrection and a call to serve our Lord by tending his flock.

 THE COLLECT

Almighty Father, who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples
with the sight of the risen Lord:
give us such knowledge of his presence with us,
that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life
and serve you continually in righteousness and truth;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Living God, your Son made himself known to his disciples
in the breaking of bread:
open the eyes of our faith, that we may see him in all his redeeming work; who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen

for St Saviour’s, Trevone, see over the page

THE READINGS FOR TODAY (Page 902/904)

First Reading                         Acts 9:1-6

Second Reading                  Revelation 5:11-14

Christ is portrayed as a Lamb who has suffered a sacrificial death.  He is entitled to receive worship with God because of the victory he has won through that death.

Gospel                                    St. John 21:1-19

After cooking breakfast for the disciples by the lake, Jesus restores and commissions Simon Peter, who once denied knowing him, to feed his sheep.

St Saviour’s, Trevone – Dedication Festival

The foundation stone of St Saviour’s was laid on the 30th April 1958 and the Church was Dedicated on 2nd May 1959 so this year is the 60th anniversary of the ceremony of Dedication. In a guide book published soon after this, the Vicar, the Revd B.B. Clarke described St Saviour’s as ‘in the centre of the village, in a delightfully picturesque valley going down to the sea’. The church is still at the heart of the village community.

It is relatively new but is named after a medieval chapel in the parish, sited near the Padstow war memorial at St Saviour’s Point, and it is made of ancient stone, some of which is from quarry at Cataclews Point which supplied the stone for the fonts at Padstow and St Merryn and the reredos and holy water stoup at St Issey. The Church is named after Jesus the Saviour and we can give thanks to him for all the good things we have received from him in it and for all the people, the ‘living stones’ we have met there.

THE COLLECT

 Almighty God,

to whose glory we celebrate the dedication of this house of prayer:

we praise you for the many blessings

you have given to those who worship you here:

and we pray that all who seek you in this place may find you,

and, being filled with the Holy Spirit,

may become a living temple acceptable to you;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Father in heaven,

whose Church on earth is a sign of your heavenly peace,

an image of the new and eternal Jerusalem:

grant to us in the days of our pilgrimage

that, fed with the living bread of heaven,

and united in the body of your Son,

we may be the temple of your presence,

the place of your glory on earth,

and a sign of your peace in the world;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

SUNDAY APRIL 28th Second Sunday of Easter

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

Introduction

We believe but did not see the rising of the Lord. Alleluia! Let us praise the risen Lord Jesus Christ.

THE COLLECT

Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins
and to rise again for our justification:
grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness
that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth;
through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Lord God our Father, through our Saviour Jesus Christ
you have assured your children of eternal life
and in baptism have made us one with him:
deliver us from the death of sin and raise us to new life in your love,
in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,

by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

TODAY’S READINGS – (Page 898/900)

SUNDAY APRIL 21ST : EASTER SUNDAY

ALLELUIA! CHRIST IS RISEN!
A warm welcome to visitors with us this Easter Day

Introduction
Without this wonderful day our faith is founded on a hopeful dream. If it was not for the Resurrection, the life and ministry of Jesus would remain simple historical fact and a good and inspiring story rather than the source of life that it truly is.

THE COLLECT
Lord of all life and power, who through the mighty resurrection of your Son overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in him: grant that we, being dead to sin and alive to you in Jesus Christ, may reign with him in glory; to whom with you and the Holy Spirit be praise and honour, glory and might, now and in all eternity. Amen

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER
God of Life, who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son
to the death of the cross, and by his glorious resurrection
have delivered us from the power of our enemy: grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his risen life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

TODAY’S READINGS –

First Reading Acts 10: 34-43
Because there is no favouritism with God, all are acceptable, all who call can be forgiven, and all are witnesses to God’s life.
Gospel St. John 20: 1-18
Seeing that Jesus had risen led the disciples to believe. Learning more about God from Jesus, Mary Magdalene understood something new of Christ as Lord.

 SUNDAY APRIL 14TH:  PALM SUNDAY

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take

our love and prayers to your home parish.

Introduction

Christ comes into our own lives today, in humility. Like the crowds on the first Palm Sunday, we greet him with joy. We pray for his presence among us as we share in the events of his Passion during this Holy Week.

THE COLLECT

Almighty and everlasting God,

who in your tender love towards the human race

sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ

to take upon him our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross:

grant that we may follow the example of his patience and humility,

and also be made partakers of his resurrection;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, you humbled yourself in taking the form of a servant, and in obedience died on the cross for our salvation:

give us the mind to follow you and to proclaim you as Lord and King, to the glory of God the Father.  Amen

TODAY’S READINGS –  As per booklet

Liturgy of the Palms –                     Luke 19: 28-40

Isaiah 50.4-9a

The prophet writes of the suffering servant, who accepts pain and degradation in the knowledge that God is his helper, who stands with him against his adversaries.

Gospel (Feel free to sit  – it’s a very long reading) St. Luke 22.14-23.56

The Passion narrative begins at the Last Supper, and takes us through the

failures of Jesus’ friends, followed by injustice, cruelty, abuse of power,

suffering and death. Through all this we see the dignity of our Lord and at the

end, his burial and the preparations being made by those who love him, which

are to come to their fruition on what we know to be Easter Day.

Special Services for Holy Week and Easter

In addition to the normal Sunday and Weekday Services

The Sacred Triduum (‘holy three days’) is the most holy time in the Church’s year, when we follow Jesus from the Last Supper, through the Garden of Gethsemane to the Cross, the Tomb and finally to his rising from the dead during the night. It is a powerful spiritual practice to attend these three services to prepare for the joy, eggs and chocolate of Easter Day.

Most merciful God, who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ delivered and saved the world:  grant that thy faith in him who suffered on the cross we may triumph in the power of his victory; through Jesus Christ our Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us that what we do for the least of our brothers and sisters we do also for you:  give us the will to be the servant of others as you were the servant of all, and gave up your life and died for us, but are alive and reign, now and forever.

TODAY’S READINGS(Page 834/835)

First Reading                         Isaiah 43: 16-21

God is about to do a new thing.  God will make a way in the wilderness and produce rivers to water the desert.  God’s people will be properly nourished.

Second Reading                   Philippians 3: 4b-14

Paul can boast of impeccable antecedents, but he regards all this as so much

rubbish beside the amazing value of a personal relationship with Jesus.

Gospel                                    St. John 12: 1-8

At a dinner party, Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with perfume and wipes them on

her hair, thus scandalising Judas Iscariot’s sense of propriety.  But Jesus is

unfazed.  He accepts her actions and tells Jesus to leave her alone.

St. Petroc’s and St. Saviour’s churches are supporting the WaterAid charity with its 2019 Jars of Change Lent Appeal.  This is to raise money to help support WaterAid in providing clean drinking water, and sanitation.  The country of focus this year is Malawi. Jars will be available to collect from both churches at the beginning of Lent.  Please return them to Sue Hollingsworth for Trevone or Sue Norfolk for Padstow.

*****After the recent cyclone in South Africa and Malawi being one of the countries hit by bad weather, your donations this Lent are even more important as WaterAid try to get fresh drinking water to its people.

St. Petroc’s Church Needs You – Can you help out with any of the following jobs in St Petroc’s Church?  We are looking more volunteers for the Coffee Rota, help with Holy Dusters, choir and flowers.

There is also a need for more Servers in the Church for the Sunday and mid-week Eucharists.   Linda Morey is retiring from being our Sacristan after several years of loyal service, if this or any of the above jobs are of interest to you and you would like more information of what the job entails then please talk to Linda, Fr Stephen, or Sue.
