SUNDAY JULY 14th    Fourth Sunday after Trinity

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

 INTENTION

We celebrate this holy Eucharist as neighbours together in Christ. We affirm our fellowship with each other, and bring to God the needs of our neighbours.

COLLECT FOR TRINITY 4

O God, the protector of all who trust in you,

without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy:

increase and multiply upon us your mercy;

that with you as our ruler and guide

we may so pass through things temporal

that we lose not our hold on things eternal;

grant this, heavenly Father, for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Eternal God, comfort of the afflicted and healer of the broken,

you have fed us at the table of life and hope:

teach us the ways of gentleness and peace,

that all the world may acknowledge

the kingdom of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

READINGS (Proper 10 – Page 987 to 988 of Lectionary)

First Reading                         Deuteronomy 30:9-14

Moses promises prosperity to the people of Israel if they obey the commandments of God enshrined in the Law and written on their hearts.

Second Reading:                    Colossians 1:1-14

Paul greets the Christians in Colossae in the opening words of his letter, and rejoices with them in their allegiance to Christ.

Amen

O God, whose beauty is beyond our imagining and whose power we cannot comprehend: show us your glory as far as we can grasp it, and shield us from knowing more than we can bear until we may look upon you without fear; through Jesus Christ our Saviour.  Amen

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported me in my Ordination last Friday. It was lovely to see so many friendly faces in the Cathedral, and I know many who couldn’t be there were with me in prayer. I’m grateful too for the many words of support and for all the cards. It was a most amazing experience, made even more special by sharing it with so many of you. Thank you.

 INTENTION

The Lord calls us to newness of life in his name. So let us set aside our old concerns, and offer him our worship and willingness to follow where he leads.

COLLECT FOR TRINITY 2

Lord, you have taught us that all our doings without love are nothing worth:
send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts

that most excellent gift of love,
the true bond of peace and of all virtues,
without which whoever lives is counted dead before you.
Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ’s sake,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Loving Father,

we thank you for feeding us at the supper of your Son:
sustain us with your Spirit,
that we may serve you here on earth until our joy is complete in heaven,
and we share in the eternal banquet
with Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding because we all have the right to be treated with respect and live lives free from abuse and neglect. This is fundamental to our Christian faith and our parishes are committed to these values through our safeguarding policies, training, and safe recruitment procedures. We promote a culture where people are aware of safeguarding issues, recognise the importance of vigilance and are open-minded and honest. We want to be a community where all feel safe, secure and respected and where their viewpoints are valued.

SUNDAY JUNE 2ND  Seventh Sunday of Easter &

Patronal Feast of St. Petroc

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

 THE COLLECTS

O God the King of Glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen

Almighty God, who sent your servant Petroc to build up your Church in Cornwall; grant that we may labour faithfully to build on the same foundation, even Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen

POST-COMMUNION PRAYERS

Eternal God, giver of love and power, your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into all the world to preach the gospel of his kingdom: confirm us in this mission, and help us to live the good news we proclaim; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

Merciful God, who gave such grace to your servant Petroc that he served you with singleness of heart and loved you above all things; help us whose communion with you has been renewed in this sacrament, to forsake all that holds us back from following Christ and to grow into his likeness from glory to glory; through Christ our Lord. Amen

THE READINGS FOR ST PETROC’S DAY

First Reading:  A reading from the Prophet Micah

Second Reading:  A reading from the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians.

Gospel :  A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke

ST PETROC’S DAY

Today is the nearest Sunday to St Petroc’s Day, 4th June. St Petroc came from Wales to Cornwall in the sixth century, landing in the Camel Estuary. He preached the gospel here, founded a monastery in Padstow and another at Little Petherick and it is said that his cousin St Issey founded a nunnery nearby. He converted a local landowner called Constantine and sent him to live as a hermit near Trevose Head in St Merryn Parish. Petroc is one of the greatest of Cornish Saints and in our churches we stand in an unbroken line of communities of faith from his time – we remember his witness and those of our other saints with gratitude. May they be in inspiration to us.
