Sunday March 15th – Third Sunday of Lent
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.
As we need to quench our bodily thirst, so do we need to quench our spiritual thirst, our deep desire and need for God.
whose most dear Son went not up to joy
but first he suffered pain,
and entered not into glory before he was crucified:
mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross,
may find it none other than the way of life and peace;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
grant your people grace to withstand the temptations
of the world, the flesh and the devil,
and with pure hearts and minds to follow you,
the only God;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
TODAY’S READINGS (Year “A” Readings- Track 2 related)
Old Testament Reading Exodus 17: 1-7
The Israelites were thirsty and rebellious, doubting God and Moses. But God answers doubts and provides for his people when they listen to his word.
New Testament Reading Romans 5: 1-11
Like water onto a parched land, God’s Spirit has been poured into our hearts and Christ has shown his love for us by dying to set us free.
Gospel St. John 4: 5-42
Jesus offered the living water and the living bread to all people, even his enemies. And today, all are welcome at the fountain head of life.
CHURCH OF ENGLAND LATEST GUIDANCE FOR CORONAVIRUS – COVID-19
It is our view, in light of the continued increase of Covid-19 cases in the United Kingdom, that it is now necessary to suspend the administration of the chalice as well as physical contact during the sharing of the peace, blessing or “laying on of hands”. We therefore advise that all priests should:-
- Offer Communion in one kind only to all communicants i.e. the consecrated bread/wafer/host, with the priest alone taking the wine.
- Suspend handshaking or other direct physical contact during the sharing of the peace;
- Suspend direct physical contact as part of a blessing or ‘laying on of hands’.
