SUNDAY JULY 28th Sixth Sunday after Trinity
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.
Abraham pleaded with God for the lives of just people who did not deserve vengeance, hardly daring to do so. God granted his request because he listens to the desires of our hearts. So Jesus urges us to ask with confidence, knowing how much God loves us.
COLLECT FOR THE SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
Merciful God, you have prepared for those who love you
such good things as pass our understanding:
pour into our hearts such love toward you
that we, loving you in all things and above all things,
may obtain your promises,
which exceed all that we can desire;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
God of our pilgrimage,
you have led us to the living water:
refresh and sustain us
as we go forward on our journey,
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
THE READINGS Proper 12 (Lectionary Page 998/1000)
First Reading Genesis 18:20-23
God can be challenged to account for himself, even by us. God wants a thorough-going relationship with us in which demands can be made on both sides.
Second Reading Colossians 2: 6-15
Christ is the basis of our life. He alone knows us, forgives us and heals us. We need no exterior signs, just the deeply held belief that he is our all in all.
Gospel St. Luke 11:1-13
If friends respond to our cry for help, how much more so will our heavenly Father come to our aid and the Lord’s Prayer perfectly expresses all our needs.

PADSTOW: MEMORIAL TO ROGER PENNA
Roger gave outstanding service to St Petroc’s for 53 years as organist and choir master. The PCC, in consultation with Roger’s family, has agreed that it would be good to have a practical memorial to his faithful contribution to our worship so it has been agreed to get a good quality music stand and put a plaque on it to his memory. This will cost about £175 and if you wish to make a donation, these can be given to Fr Stephen or the Churchwardens.
NEW CHAPLAIN FOR THE PADSTOW SEA CADETS
Our Curate, the Revd Fiona Giorla who is a keen sailor, was commissioned as the new Chaplain of the Unit at Evening Colours on Friday 26 July by the retiring chaplain, the Revd Diane Powell, who will remain District Chaplain and a member of the Command Team. It is good for us, as a Benefice, to be supporting the Cadets who make a great contribution to the local community. We wish Fiona every blessing in her new ministry and thank Diane for all her service.
