SUNDAY JULY 7th Third Sunday after Trinity
St Merryn Feast Day
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.
Jesus says the kingdom of God is near. We listen to Him, for in his words lies our salvation.
COLLECT FOR TRINITY 3
Almighty God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts whereby we call you Father: give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service, that we and all creation may be brought to the glorious liberty of the children of God; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
O God, whose beauty is beyond our imagining and whose power we cannot comprehend: show us your glory as far as we can grasp it, and shield us from knowing more than we can bear until we may look upon you without fear; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen
READINGS (Proper 9 – Page 981 to 983 of Lectionary)
First Reading Isaiah 66:10-14
The prophet comforts the Jewish exiles in Babylon, assuring them that God intends to take them home to Jerusalem, where they will know peace and abundance.
Second Reading Galatians 6:7-16
Paul describes the new creation in Christ as a mutually supportive, non-judgemental fellowship, lived in the Spirit and empowered by faith in the crucified Lord.
Gospel St. Luke 10:1-11,16-20
Jesus sends out pairs of disciples to establish bases in the places he intends to visit. He gives them detailed instructions on how to carry out his mission.
Thank you from Fiona.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported me in my Ordination last Friday. It was lovely to see so many friendly faces in the Cathedral, and I know many who couldn’t be there were with me in prayer. I’m grateful too for the many words of support and for all the cards. It was a most amazing experience, made even more special by sharing it with so many of you. Thank you.
Benefice Service: Sunday 7 July, 5pm, Choral Evensong at Padstow

Confirmation & learning more about our faith
We are starting a group for children, and perhaps one for adults, to explore the Christian Faith with a view to confirmation.
The children’s group will begin in late July and has grown out of questions from the older children at the Padstow Friday Fun Club. Teaching and events have been planned leading up to being confirmed by Bishop Philip in Truro Cathedral on Saturday 19 October followed by first Holy Communion in the Parish Church. There are still spaces, if you are interested please speak to Fr Stephen or Andrea Curnow.
Thanks to all those in the Padstow congregation who have donated towards books for the children.
New Director of Music at Padstow
Padstow parish is pleased to announce that Neil Shepherd has been appointed as its new Director of Music at St Petroc’s, in succession to Roger Penna who contributed so much over more than fifty years.
Neil is an outstanding musician and choir director who runs a number of choirs in Cornwall and was previously Director of Music at St Ives Parish Church. He also regularly works with Gareth Stubberfield, the Organist at St Merryn. Neil will be working with the deputy organist Jamie Constance, who has done so well in leading worship since Roger died, and will start on Sunday 14 July. Sunday choir practice at St Petroc’s will be at 9.45am from then onwards and visiting singers are welcome.
St Merryn Summer Coffee Mornings are held at St. Merryn Church Hall every Tuesday between 10.15am and 12.00. They will continue until the end of September. If you have any ideas for stalls or know of any local organisations that would like a stall, please come along to the meeting or contact Tim Bishop (533972) or Sue Norfolk (532902). This is a fantastic outreach event for the Padstow Community.
Padstow – Come Rain or Shine
On 16th and 17th August between 10am and 3pm St Petroc’s is running free craft days for families in the Church Rooms. It’s part of Truro Diocese’s ‘Come Rain or Shine’ project. The idea is that churches across the diocese open for a couple of days in the summer to provide free activities for families (local and visitors alike), in case it’s pouring with rain or too hot to be on the beach. We’ll provide activities and drinks and snacks through the day. Please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested in coming along. If you would like to help out, we need people to help with the crafts, to make tea and coffee, and to greet people and generally be on hand to chat. If you’re free either day and can spare some time, please let Izzy know or sign up on the sheet at the back of the church. Likewise if you could bake a cake for us. We would like to offer people homemade cake with their tea or coffee.
