 SUNDAY APRIL 14TH:  PALM SUNDAY

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take

our love and prayers to your home parish.

Introduction

Christ comes into our own lives today, in humility. Like the crowds on the first Palm Sunday, we greet him with joy. We pray for his presence among us as we share in the events of his Passion during this Holy Week.

THE COLLECT

Almighty and everlasting God,

who in your tender love towards the human race

sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ

to take upon him our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross:

grant that we may follow the example of his patience and humility,

and also be made partakers of his resurrection;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, you humbled yourself in taking the form of a servant, and in obedience died on the cross for our salvation:

give us the mind to follow you and to proclaim you as Lord and King, to the glory of God the Father.  Amen

TODAY’S READINGS –  As per booklet

Liturgy of the Palms –                     Luke 19: 28-40

Isaiah 50.4-9a

The prophet writes of the suffering servant, who accepts pain and degradation in the knowledge that God is his helper, who stands with him against his adversaries.

Gospel (Feel free to sit  – it’s a very long reading) St. Luke 22.14-23.56

The Passion narrative begins at the Last Supper, and takes us through the

failures of Jesus’ friends, followed by injustice, cruelty, abuse of power,

suffering and death. Through all this we see the dignity of our Lord and at the

end, his burial and the preparations being made by those who love him, which

are to come to their fruition on what we know to be Easter Day.

St. Petroc’s and St. Saviour’s churches are supporting the WaterAid charity with its 2019 Jars of Change Lent Appeal.  This is to raise money to help support WaterAid in providing clean drinking water, and sanitation.  The country of focus this year is Malawi. Jars will be available to collect from both churches at the beginning of Lent.  Please return them to Sue Hollingsworth for Trevone or Sue Norfolk for Padstow on Easter Sunday.

*****After the recent cyclone in South Africa and Malawi being one of the countries hit by bad weather, your donations this Lent are even more important as WaterAid try to get fresh drinking water to its people.

Please meet in the church 10.00 am on Saturday 21st April to decorate the church with flowers or as last year bring a vase or jug with Spring flowers in and put them on the window sills sometime Saturday it looked lovely.  Sue Hollingsworth.

Special Services for Holy Week and Easter

In addition to the normal Sunday and Weekday Services

The Sacred Triduum (‘holy three days’) is the most holy time in the Church’s year, when we follow Jesus from the Last Supper, through the Garden of Gethsemane to the Cross, the Tomb and finally to his rising from the dead during the night. It is a powerful spiritual practice to attend these three services to prepare for the joy, eggs and chocolate of Easter Day.
