SUNDAY APRIL 7TH  : The Fifth Sunday of Lent

           Passiontide begins

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take

our love and prayers to your home parish.

Introduction

When Judas used the poor to justify his own intransigence, Jesus said, ”You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”  While we are with Jesus today, let us enjoy his company as we worship God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

THE COLLECT

Most merciful God, who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ delivered and saved the world:  grant that thy faith in him who suffered on the cross we may triumph in the power of his victory; through Jesus Christ our Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us that what we do for the least of our brothers and sisters we do also for you:  give us the will to be the servant of others as you were the servant of all, and gave up your life and died for us, but are alive and reign, now and forever.

TODAY’S READINGS(Page 834/835)

First Reading                         Isaiah 43: 16-21

God is about to do a new thing.  God will make a way in the wilderness and produce rivers to water the desert.  God’s people will be properly nourished.

Second Reading                   Philippians 3: 4b-14

Paul can boast of impeccable antecedents, but he regards all this as so much

rubbish beside the amazing value of a personal relationship with Jesus.

Gospel                                    St. John 12: 1-8

At a dinner party, Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with perfume and wipes them on

her hair, thus scandalising Judas Iscariot’s sense of propriety.  But Jesus is

unfazed.  He accepts her actions and tells Jesus to leave her alone.

St Issey and St Petroc Minor Annual Church Meeting

The Annual Meeting of Parishioners and Annual Parochial Church Meeting for the Parish of St Issey and St Petroc Minor will be on Wednesday 10 April at 7pm in the Osborne Room, St Issey. Nomination forms for Churchwardens and PCC members are available in both churches.

 NEWS & EVENTS

South Camel Christians Together

LENT TALKS 2019

These will take place each Tuesday in St Johns Methodist Church Padstow at 7:30pm. Each session will be led by a member of the Clergy and the Topic this year is the SORROWFUL MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY.

Tuesday 9th April       The Crucifixion.                   Revd Alistair Sharp

PLAINCHANT COMPLINE, a short candlelit service for the end of the day (lasting about 20 minutes), will be sung in St Petroc’s Church after each Tuesday Talk at 8:30pm.

All are welcome to sing or just be present.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be followed each Friday in Lent at 12 noon in St Petroc’s Parish Church (apart from Good Friday when the Walk of Witness will take place accompanied by St Minver Silver Band).

St. Petroc’s and St. Saviour’s churches are supporting the WaterAid charity with its 2019 Jars of Change Lent Appeal.  This is to raise money to help support WaterAid in providing clean drinking water, and sanitation.  The country of focus this year is Malawi. Jars will be available to collect from both churches at the beginning of Lent.  Please return them to Sue Hollingsworth for Trevone or Sue Norfolk for Padstow.

*****After the recent cyclone in South Africa and Malawi being one of the countries hit by bad weather, your donations this Lent are even more important as WaterAid try to get fresh drinking water to its people.

St. Petroc’s Church Needs You – Can you help out with any of the following jobs in St Petroc’s Church?  We are looking more volunteers for the Coffee Rota, help with Holy Dusters, choir and flowers.

There is also a need for more Servers in the Church for the Sunday and mid-week Eucharists.   Linda Morey is retiring from being our Sacristan after several years of loyal service, if this or any of the above jobs are of interest to you and you would like more information of what the job entails then please talk to Linda, Fr Stephen, or Sue.
