SUNDAY MARCH 31ST : The Fourth Sunday of Lent

           Mothering Sunday

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take

our love and prayers to your home parish.

On Mothering Sunday we give thanks to God for our own mothers and those who have cared for us, for Mother Church and for God’s loving parenthood.

God of compassion, whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary,
shared the life of a home in Nazareth, and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself: strengthen us in our daily living that in joy and in sorrow we may know the power of your presence to bind together and to heal; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Loving God, as a mother feeds her children at the breast you feed us in this sacrament with the food and drink of eternal life: help us who have tasted your goodness to grow in grace within the household of faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

TODAY’S READINGS(Page 830-833)

First Reading                         Exodus 2:1–10

God used three women’s gifts to save Moses: his mother’s faith, his sister’s intelligence and the compassion of Pharaoh’s daughter. He can use our gifts, too.

Second Reading                   Colossians 3: 12-17

We all know that love should be the hallmark of Christian living. Here,

Paul tells us what that love is to be like in practice.

Gospel                                    St. John 19:25-27

In his dying moments, Jesus fulfils his family responsibilities by providing for

the welfare of his mother.

New PCCs at Padstow and St Merryn

Thanks to all who contributed to the Annual Church Meetings at Padstow and St Merryn last week. We welcome new Churchwardens in both parishes, Janet Dawe at Padstow and Gill Watts at St Merryn, and thank Linda Morey for her service as Churchwarden at Padstow. We also welcome new members of the PCC in both parishes and thank those who have retired this year. Members of the Deanery Synod are elected for three years and there will be new elections next year. This year Gerry Chandler of St Merryn resigned from Deanery Synod and was replaced by Clifford Allison who also becomes an ex officio member of the St Merryn PCC. We thank Gerry for many years of work on various committees.

St. Petroc’s and St. Saviour’s churches are supporting the WaterAid charity with its 2019 Jars of Change Lent Appeal.  This is to raise money to help support WaterAid in providing clean drinking water, and sanitation.  The country of focus this year is Malawi. Jars will be available to collect from both churches at the beginning of Lent.  Please return them to Sue Hollingsworth for Trevone or Sue Norfolk for Padstow.

*****After the recent cyclone in South Africa and Malawi being one of the countries hit by bad weather, your donations this Lent are even more important as WaterAid try to get fresh drinking water to its people.

St. Petroc’s Church Needs You – Can you help out with any of the following jobs in St Petroc’s Church?  We are looking more volunteers for the Coffee Rota, help with Holy Dusters, choir and flowers.

There is also a need for more Servers in the Church for the Sunday and mid-week Eucharists.   Linda Morey is retiring from being our Sacristan after several years of loyal service, if this or any of the above jobs are of interest to you and you would like more information of what the job entails then please talk to Linda, Fr Stephen, or Sue.
