“Weekly News” for
THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW
ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 18TH 2018
SECOND SUNDAY BEFORE ADVENT
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today. Please take our love and prayers to your home parish.
Come before the Lord with thanksgiving, for Jesus Christ has opened for us a new and living way into the presence of God.
COLLECT FOR THE SECOND SUNDAY BEFORE ADVENT
Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son was revealed to destroy the works of the devil and to make us children of God and heirs to eternal life:
grant that we, having this hope, may purify ourselves even as he is pure;
that when he shall appear in power and great glory we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
First Reading Daniel 12:1-3
Daniel prophesies that great tribulation before the end of time will bring the resurrection of the dead, judgement and the deliverance of God’s people.
Second Reading Hebrews 10:11-14, 19-25
Because Jesus has offered a perfect sacrifice for our sins, we can approach God’s judgement day with confidence in his promise of forgiveness.
Gospel St. Mark 13:1-8
The destruction of the Temple, heart of Jewish culture, is one of many catastrophes to precede the end of time, none in themselves signalling the end.
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Gracious Lord, in this holy sacrament you give substance to our hope:
bring us at the last to that fullness of life for which we long;
through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

A MESSAGE FROM REVD KATIE KIRBY
Thank you so very much for all your love, prayers and wonderful support during my brother’s recent illness. After 5 weeks in hospital and open heart surgery to replace a valve damaged by the infection, John is now home and improving by the day. We have felt the whole Benefice upholding us in prayer, and can’t thank you enough.
God bless you all.
