“Weekly News” for
THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW
ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR
14th SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY (Proper 17)
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 2ND 2018
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today. Please take our love and prayers to your home parish.
As we come to this Eucharist may our hearts be full of love. Let us rejoice in the God who created us and redeemed us.
Almighty God, whose only Son has opened for us
a new and living way into your presence:
give us pure hearts and steadfast wills to worship you in spirit and in truth;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
THE READINGS (Lectionary Page 660/661 – Proper 17)
First Reading Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-9
Moses calls on the Israelites to respond to God’s love by obeying his commandments: this mutual relationship will bring them to the Promised Land.
Second Reading James 1:17-end
God’s call is to obey the fundamental law. A living relationship with God delivers us from the slavery of sin. We put this into practice by helping others.
Gospel St. Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23
When they censure his disciples for neglecting rituals, Jesus reminds the Pharisees of the basis of God’s law: to honour him with our hearts.
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Lord God, the source of truth and love,
keep us faithful to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship,
united in prayer and the breaking of bread,
and one in joy and simplicity of heart, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

NEW BISHOP OF TRURO – It was announced on Thursday that the new Bishop of Truro will be the Revd Canon Philip Mounstephen who will be the 16th Bishop of Truro. He will be consecrated Bishop later this year and a service in Truro Cathedral to welcome him as Bishop will take place early in 2019.
WELCOME TO FR STEPHEN HOLMES – This coming week we look forward to welcoming Fr. Stephen Holmes and his wife Izzy to Padstow, to take up his new post as Rector of the United Benefice.
As a gesture to welcome them to the Benefice we would like to make up some welcome boxes from the Parishes. These could contain items such as Jams, chutneys, biscuits, tinned produce, wine, local ale, toiletries etc., welcome them to the Benefice. (I know Kirsten was extremely appreciative of her welcome box when she moved to her Parish). If you would like to donate something to this, please give your donations to your churchwardens, or drop them into me at the Benefice office. We will then make up a box and drop it to them.
We look forward to meeting Fr Stephen and Izzy very soon.
A BIG THANK YOU – This year’s Dog Show and BBQ and Community Garden Party where a great success.
