“Weekly News” for
THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW
ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR
10th SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY (Proper 13)
SUNDAY AUGUST 5TH 2018
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today. Please take our love and prayers to your home parish.
When faith draws us to turn to God and we trust him to guide our decisions, he feeds us with the everlasting bread of heaven. Perfect food for our healing and growth.
Let your merciful ears, O Lord,
be open to the prayers of your humble servants;
and that they may obtain their petitions
make them to ask such things as shall please you;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
THE READINGS (Lectionary Page 639/641)
First Reading Exodus 16:2-4, 9-15
The Israelites in the desert yearned only for sufficient food, when God was offering them freedom for ever in their own land. But God listened and understood.
Second Reading Ephesians 4:1-16
Paul reminds us to give up inappropriate attitudes, to grow up! Keeping our eyes upon God and letting him decide what is for our good, as expressed through Jesus.
Gospel St. John 6:24-35
It is easy to become distracted by apparent needs, without looking beyond them to what is truly important. With Jesus, evidence should not be necessary, but faith is!
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
God of our pilgrimage, you have willed that the gate of mercy
should stand open for those who trust in you:
look upon us with your favour that we who follow the path of your will may never wander from the way of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
