A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take our love and prayers to your home parish.

INTRODUCTION

Jesus fed the crowds who followed him with loaves of bread. Let us allow him into our lives today so he can feed us with the true bread from heaven.

THE COLLECT FOR THE NINTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY

Almighty God, who sent your Holy Spirit
to be the life and light of your Church:
open our hearts to the riches of your grace,
that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit in love and joy and peace;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THE READINGS (Proper 12 – Page 633 to 635 of Lectionary)

First Reading                           2 Kings 4:42 – 44

Elisha’s miraculous feeding of a hundred people with twenty loaves prefigures, on a smaller scale, Jesus’ feeding of five thousand with five loaves.

Second Reading                       Ephesians 3:14-21

St Paul prays that the Gentiles in Ephesus will come to know Christ in all his fullness and so benefit from the abundance of God’s grace.

Gospel                                     St. John 6:1-21

After miraculously feeding the crowds, Jesus thwarts their plans to crown him king and later appears to the disciples, walking on the Sea of Galilee.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

Holy Father, who gathered us here around the table of your Son
to share this meal with the whole household of God:
in that new world where you reveal the fullness of your peace,
gather people of every race and language

to share in the eternal banquet of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FEAST OF ST. MARY MAGDALENE – SUNDAY JULY 22nd  2018

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take our love and prayers to your home parish.

Introduction and call to worship

“See, I am making all things new”. We see the divine promise fulfilled in the experience of St. Mary Magdalene. We, too, can find newness through Christ. Let us seek it through Word and Sacrament.

THE COLLECT

Almighty God,
whose Son restored Mary Magdalene to health of mind and body
and called her to be a witness to his resurrection:
forgive our sins and heal us by your grace,
that we may serve you in the power of his risen life;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.  Amen

THE READINGS (Page 1158 – 1160)

First Reading                     Song of Solomon 3:1-4

The one who loves ardently pursues her beloved. Her determination is rewarded. She finds him and clings to him, foreshadowing the behaviour of Mary of Magdala.

Second Reading                2 Corinthians 5: 14-17

Paul teaches of the “new life” found by knowing Our Lord Jesus Christ

Gospel                                  St. John 20:1-2,11-18

“Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven”. Mary Magdalene gets her reward.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

God of life and love, whose risen Son called Mary Magdalene by name
and sent her to tell of his resurrection to his apostles:
in your mercy, help us, who have been united with him in this Eucharist,
to proclaim the good news that he is alive and reigns, now and for ever.   Amen

THE CHILDREN’S SOCIETY COLLECTION BOXES

Please will holders of boxes bring them to any service at the Parish Church this month, when they will be kept in the vestry until I can take them away for emptying, so that the proceeds can be sent to the Society. When emptied and re-labelled, I will return them to the back of the church for collecting by their holders. I shall be glad of people’s telephone numbers, the records of some of which are now wrong; also, if anyone cannot get to church, please ring me to arrange for it to be fetched.

7TH AFTER TRINITY (Proper 10) – SUNDAY JULY 15th 2018

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take our love and prayers to your home parish.

INTRODUCTION

Through Christ Jesus we, who were once far off, have been brought near to God.  Let us rejoice and worship him through this Eucharist.

THE COLLECT FOR THE SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY

Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things:
graft in our hearts the love of your name,
increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness,
and of your great mercy keep us in the same;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen

READINGS (Proper 10 – Page 622 to 624 of Lectionary)

First Reading                                         Amos 7:7-15

Amos set before the people a challenge that they do not like. The plumb-line reveals their fallen ways and he finds himself attacked for speaking that which is true.

Second Reading                Ephesians 1:3-14

Thanks to Jesus, God the Father has accepted his children and wants them to share and enjoy that which Christ has already known. There is good reason to give thanks and praise.

Gospel                                               St. Mark 6:14-29

John, a worthy prophet, finds his challenge is too much for King Herod. The contrast between that which is true and that which is false is clearly demonstrated in this grim tale.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

Lord God, whose Son is the true vine and the source of life,
ever giving himself that the world may live:

May we so receive within ourselves the power of his death and passion that, in his saving cup, we may share his glory and be made perfect in his love; for he is alive and reigns, now and for ever.  Amen

6TH AFTER TRINITY (Proper 9) – SUNDAY JULY 8th 2018

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take our love and prayers to your home parish.

INTRODUCTION

Prophets are called to speak out, to provide insight to people who do not see clearly. May we be inspired to speak out in our lives for justice and truth.

THE COLLECT FOR THE SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY

Merciful God,  you have prepared for those who love you
such good things as pass our understanding:
Pour into our hearts such love toward you
that we, loving you in all things and above all things,
may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

READINGS (Proper 9 – Page 617 to 619 of Lectionary)

First Reading              Ezekiel 2:1-5

The prophet Ezekiel is aware of his weakness compared with the God who asks him to bear a message to a stubborn people, who will not wish to hear it.

Second Reading           2 Corinthians 12:2-10

St Paul talks of his own visionary experience and of the physical impediment which reminds him of his weakness: his prophetic ability is a God-given gift.

Gospel                         St. Mark 6:1-13

Jesus, the uniquely embodied Word of God, like many a prophet is neither respected nor heeded by his own people; in contrast, his disciples travel abroad seeking a response from a less-prejudiced audience.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

God of our pilgrimage, you have led us to the living water:
Refresh and sustain us as we go forward on our journey,
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

5TH AFTER TRINITY (Proper 8) – SUNDAY JULY 1ST   2018

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.  Please take our love and prayers to your home parish.

INTRODUCTION

Prophets are called to speak out, to provide insight to people who do not see clearly. May we be inspired to speak out in our lives for justice and truth.

THE COLLECT FOR THE DAY

Almighty and everlasting God,
by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified:
hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people,
that in their vocation and ministry
they may serve you in holiness and truth to the glory of your name;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

READINGS  (Proper 8 – Page 611/614)

First Reading              Wisdom of Solomon 1:13-15; 2:23-24

God wills eternal life for all his creation.

Second Reading           2 Corinthians 8:7-end

St. Paul urges Christians to be generous with one another.

Gospel                         St. Mark 5: 21-end

The healing touch of Jesus creates new life from torment and tragedy.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Grant, O Lord, we beseech you,
that the course of this world may be so peaceably ordered
by your governance,

that your Church may joyfully serve you in all godly quietness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
