Teatime Service – Seeds of Faith

We used apples to help us think about the Trinity. We planted seeds to look after and care for , just as we need to nurture the ‘seeds of our faith’. We enjoyed eating apples too!growing seedlingwatering my seeds

INTENTION

Come, Holy Spirit!  Set our hearts afire in worship, and breathe your power and wisdom into our lives.

THE COLLECT

God, who as at this time taught the hearts of your faithful people
by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit:
grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgement in all things
and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort;
through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

TODAY’S READINGS (Page 561/564)

First Reading                                        Ezekiel 37:1-14

The Spirit of God breathes new life into those who have lost all hope, enabling them to hear God’s word and live.

Second reading                                 Acts 2:1-21

Joel’s prophecy helps Peter to understand the gifts of Pentecost: God’s Spirit empowers men and women to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations.

Gospel                                                  St. John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15

Jesus promises to send the Spirit of truth to all his followers, to help them interpret and apply his teaching in today’s world.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Faithful God, who fulfilled the promises of Easter
by sending us your Holy Spirit
and opening to every race and nation the way of life eternal:
open our lips by your Spirit, that every tongue may tell of your glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW

ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR

Sunday May 6th – SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

 A WARM WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS TODAY

Introduction and call to worship

Today we hear a teaching of Jesus which is easy to take for granted.  Let us pray for a fresh vision of love in the world.

THE COLLECT

God our redeemer, you have delivered us from the power of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of your Son:
grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life,
so by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

THE READINGS FOR TODAY (Page 549/551)

First Reading                                     Acts 10:44-48

The Spirit given even to those regarded as unworthy, the Gentiles! How can Peter resist God’s obvious message?

Second Reading                                1 John 5:1-6

Loving and obeying God as our parent, living out our faith in his Son through baptism, witnesses to the Spirit of truth in our lives.

Gospel                                                  St. John 15:9-17

Jesus unequivocally confirms his relationship with the Father and its burden of responsibility, which he passes on to those who claim his friendship: to love and to give without limits.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life:
may we thirst for you, the spring of life and source of goodness,
through him who is alive and reigns,
now and for ever.  Amen

HOME COMMUNIONS
