in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen

A WARM WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS TODAY

Introduction and call to worship

Jesus is the Good Shepherd who cares for his people. He is our protector and our guide today. The risen Christ is with us – to guide us in our worship and to lift us to safety when we fall.

THE COLLECT

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life:
Raise us, who trust in him,
from the death of sin to the life of righteousness,
that we may seek those things which are above,
where he reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

THE READINGS FOR TODAY (Page 544/545)

First Reading                                     Acts 4:5-12

Peter, who had denied Jesus at the time of his trial, has been restored. Now he has a new found faith and courage to proclaim Jesus as Messiah.

Second reading                                 1 John 3:16-24

As the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep, so followers of Christ are told to care for the lost, and to love one another in word and deed.

Gospel                                               St. John 10:11-18

The relationship that Jesus has with us is like that of a good shepherd with his sheep. He is with us in danger. He cares for the lost. His will is that we should be one. He lays down his life for us.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Merciful Father, you gave your Son Jesus Christ to be the good shepherd,
and in his love for us to lay down his life and rise again:
Keep us always under his protection, and give us grace to follow in his steps; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

“Weekly News” for

 THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW

ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR

Sunday April 15th – 3rd SUNDAY OF EASTER

A WARM WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS TODAY

Introduction and call to worship

“The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed!” We echo the cry of the disciples on Easter Day, yet at first the resurrection seemed incredible to them. So Jesus came, to open the scriptures, to feed them, and to give assurance. That is what he does for us today.

THE COLLECT

Almighty Father, who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples
with the sight of the risen Lord:
Give us such knowledge of his presence with us,
that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life
and serve you continually in righteousness and truth;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THE READINGS FOR TODAY (Page 541/543)

First Reading                                         Acts 3.12-19

Jesus, who was crucified, is alive and is the promised Messiah. This forms the content of the first proclamations of the church, made by Peter after Pentecost.

Second Reading                                  I John 3 1-7

From his own experience, John is conscious of the overwhelming love of God. Our response to that same love for us, is that we should try to be pure, and do what is righteous.

Gospel                                                  St. Luke 24 36-48

On the first Easter Day, Jesus has been seen by Mary Magdalene, and by those on the road to Emmaus. Now in the evening he appears to the eleven disciples and their companions, and proves to them that he is alive.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Living God, your Son made himself known to his disciples
in the breaking of bread:  open the eyes of our faith, that we may see him in all his redeeming work; who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen

HOME COMMUNIONS

If you know of anyone who is housebound or unwell who would like to receive their communion at home either as a one-off or on a regular basis, please contact: Fiona Giorla on 01841 532956.  Fiona is a Pastoral Care Worker and has permission from the Bishop to administer this very important part in St. Petroc’s ministry so don’t be afraid to ask. ANNUAL GARDEN PARTY AT PRIDEAUX PLACE – This year’s Garden Party will take place on Saturday 18th August, by kind permission of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Prideaux-Brune.  This year now that we have finished the Church Tower and the new church rooms, we want to give the garden party a more community feel and would like local community groups/organizations to get involved to run a stall and raise funds for their own group/organization.  To get this year’s planning off the ground there will be a planning meeting on Saturday 21st April at 10.30 a.m. in the church rooms.  All are welcome to attend with your ideas, offers of help and please if you have contact with any group them please let them know.  If you can’t be there for the meeting but would like to offer help, then please contact either Tim Bishop or Sue Norfolk.

ADVANCED NOTICE – APCM FOR ST. ISSEY AND ST. PETROC MINOR

The APCM FOR 2018 will take place on Tuesday 24th April at 7.30 p.m. in the Osborne Room.  All are welcome to attend.

OPEN DAY OF THE NEWLY BUILT CHURCH ROOMS – It was so great to see so many people from the community of Padstow and the Mayor of Padstow come to look around our new church rooms.  It was very encouraging to hear all the positive comments about the building.  A building that we are delighted to have in our community.  If you want to make a booking for the hall, please contact our Administrator on 01841 532898 in office hours or email her at pmilbenefice1235@outlook.com

“Weekly News” for

THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW

ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR

Sunday April 8th  – 2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER

A WARM WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS TODAY

Introduction and call to worship

The risen Lord Jesus made himself known to his disciples, breathed his Holy Spirit on them and brought them the reassurance of his peace.

THE COLLECT

Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins
and to rise again for our justification:
Grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness
that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth;
through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.  Amen

THE READINGS FOR TODAY (Page 538/539)

First Reading                                                   Acts 4: 32 – 35

This account of communal commitment by sharing of possessions and of Christian love, provides a challenge today as we seek to heed Christ’s commission to us.

Second Reading                                                1 John 1: 1 – 2:2

God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.

Gospel Reading                                                St. John 20:19-end

The risen Lord Jesus brings the disciples reassurance and his Holy Spirit, and commissions them in his service. Thomas’s ringing acclamation ‘My Lord and my God‘ – points us to our Easter faith.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Lord God our Father, through our Saviour Jesus Christ
you have assured your children of eternal life
and in baptism have made us one with him:
Deliver us from the death of sin and raise us to new life in your love, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.    Amen

THE CHURCH ELECTORIAL ROLL ST. ISSEY AND ST. PETROC MINOR

Under the Church Representation Rules between Sunday March 25th and Sunday April 8th, inclusive we have our annual revision of the Electoral Roll.  Please contact our Electoral Roll Officer, Mrs Kathy Qwinell (540636) at St. Issey.  Please ask for a form to complete if you would like your name on the Roll.  If your name is on the Roll you are a “member” of the Anglican Parish of St. Issey.  Being on the Roll entitles you to vote at the Annual Parochial Meeting on April 24th and serve of the P.C.C. if elected.  This is also the time to check that your name is on the Roll or to ask for it to be removed if that is your wish. We have to have an accurate Roll for the Annual Meeting.

PADSTOW APCM  APRIL 11TH 2018 – This will take place in the Church Rooms commencing with the vestry meeting at 7.00 p.m. for the election of Churchwardens followed by the APCM at 7.30 p.m.

Churchwardens are elected on a yearly basis.  If you would like to stand as a Churchwarden please fill in the forms that you will find at the back on the churchwarden’s chest.  We have 3 representatives from Padstow and 1 from Trevone, who retire this year.  If you would like to stand as a PCC member, there are forms at the back of the church.  You must be on the Electoral Roll to qualify.  Please hand to the administrator.

Our thanks to Janine Ogborne, Alan Veck, Tim Bishop and Fiona Giorla for their dedication and hard work to the Parish of Padstow and its churches.

ST. MERRYN APCM – will take place on Thursday 12th April at 7.00 p.m. in St Merryn Church Hall. This is your chance to hear about all the things that go on in your Church and the Benefice for the coming year.

Also if you know of anyone who would like to be included on our prayer list please let Sue know by Thursday morning when she completes the Intercession Prayer List.

A BIG BENEFICE THANK YOU –   A big thank you to everyone from across the Benefice who helped make the Easter services run so well and our churches look so lovely with the flowers and Easter gardens.  Everyone worked extremely hard in the run up to Easter Sunday, as this was our first Easter without Fr Chris, who used to do so much for the Benefice in preparation for this special time.  So whatever part you played in the preparation to Easter Sunday A VERY BIG THANK YOU INDEED.

JOHN STOCK – It is with great sadness that we received the news on Thursday from John’s daughter Jo, that John passed away very peacefully on Good Friday.  John was a Treasurer to the Parish of Padstow for many years, and was a lovely and caring gentleman, who loved his church at Trevone.  We pass on our condolences to Jo and all the family.  ‘May he rest in peace and rise in glory’.
