“Weekly News” for
THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW
ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR
Sunday March 18th 2018 – 5TH SUNDAY OF LENT-PASSION-TIDE BEGINS
A warm welcome to any visitors with us today
The Greeks said, “We wish to see Jesus”. We look again at our Christian faith so that we may see in our lives the presence of the crucified and risen Christ.
Most merciful God,
who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ
delivered and saved the world:
grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross
we may triumph in the power of his victory;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
TODAY’S READINGS (Page 474/476)
First Reading Jeremiah 31: 31-34
God promises a new covenant with his chosen people, written on their hearts. “I will be their God, and they shall be my people”.
Second Reading Hebrews 5: 5-10
Christ is the new High Priest who offers himself on behalf of all his people, and through his suffering, wins for them eternal salvation.
Gospel St. John 12: 20-33
The arrival of some Greeks at the Passover festival prompts Jesus to teach his disciples about his impending death and resurrection.
Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us that what we do for the least of our brothers and sisters we do also for you: Give us the will to be the servant of others as you were the servant of all, and gave up your life and died for us,
but are alive and reign, now and for ever. Amen
THE CHURCH ELECTORIAL ROLL ST. MERRYN
Under the Church Representation Rules between Sunday March 4th and Sunday March 18th we have our annual revision of the Electoral Roll. Please contact our Electoral Roll Officer, Mr. Philip Gorse (520544) at St. Merryn. Please ask for a form to complete if you would like your name on the Roll. This is also the time to check that your name is on the Roll or to ask for it to be removed if that is your wish. We have to have an accurate Roll for the Annual Meeting.

CONGRATULATIONS – To the JAM CLUB Children’s Sunday School group and their helpers. They have been saving their collection money and have recently sent to Africa through the Good Gifts Company £125 to buy a Donkey Library. It has taken them over two years to do this and they are extremely happy to have reached their goal.
Since JAM CLUB started the children have with their collections bought:
7 GOATS, 11 CHICKENS for Africa, 1 DONKEY LIBRARY for Africa, 1 COW, and a MUMMY AND DADDY SHEEP for India and also 66 bowls of rice to feed 66 hungry children for 1 day.
This is a fantastic achievement by our young ones and we can’t thank them and Pat Jenks and her helpers enough for their compassion to help the less fortunate in these countries.
