“Weekly News” for

 A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

God created the world in love and saw that it was good. We all have our individual part to play in enhancing creation, using wisely the gifts and resources we have been given by God for the purpose.

Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son was revealed to destroy the works of the deviland to make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life:

Grant that we, having this hope, may purify ourselves even as he is pure;

that when he shall appear in power and great glory

we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom;

where he is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  AMEN.

TODAY’S  READINGS   (Page 356/359)

First Reading                                                      Zephaniah 1:7,12-18

The Lord has the power to bring down empires and destroy those who disobey his precepts but whether or not he does so depends upon our repentance and humility.

Second Reading                                                1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

The day of the Lord will come and we must be ready. We are Christ’s followers, people of the light with knowledge of the truth, gifted with grace to support each other in his name.

Gospel                                                                 St. Matthew 25:14-30

To be given talents and skills which are wasted through indolence or fear of taking a risk for God is a misuse of God’s bounty and deprives the world of creative goodness.

Gracious Lord, in this holy sacrament you give substance to our hope:

bring us at the last to that fullness of life for which we long;

through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Dear All,

Well, we’ve made it into our new home and the unpacking is still underway.  I swear the boxes are breeding as the more we empty the more there seem to be!

On behalf of Gill and myself may I say a tremendous and heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to our retirement gifts.  I was totally overwhelmed by your generosity so from us both THANK YOU and bless you all.

We have had a wonderful time in Padstow and we’ll miss you all so much but life has to move on for us all. No-one can take away the special memories I’ll hold of events, friendships made and families I have got to know through the various offices of the church. They are all memories I shall treasure so thank you for a very, very happy (nearly) 16 years in the parish.

Thanks to Everyone who was involved in my final Sunday as it was very special but, oh so emotional.  Thanks to my fellow parish clergy for their help and support and especially a big thank you to Sue and Linda for organising the lovely event at Prideaux Place – my thanks to Peter and Elisabeth for hosting the occasion.

Now you all have to look forward to the new phase in the life of the new United Benefice with the appointment of your new parish priest to take you forward with the Mission of the church.  Please support all those involved in the appointment as it is a massive responsibility for them.  With the guidance of the Holy Spirit I’m sure the right appointment will be made.

Finally, my thanks to Canon Michael and Revd. Katie for all that they are doing in “The Transition”.  Please look after them – they are both retired and they are working so hard.

May God bless Padstow parish and may you all go forward in faith and unity for the future.  Fr. Chris and Gill.

St. Petroc’s Crib Exhibition 2017 December 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th

Sue and Linda are organizing the Annual crib and quilt exhibition during the second week of December.  If you have a crib or nativity scene or a Christmas quilt that you would like displayed, please contact Sue (01841 532902) or Linda (01841532183).  Set up will be on Wednesday 6th December from 10.00 a.m. so please come along and bring your cribs to be displayed. We will be setting up a rota to steward the church, so if you can spare a couple of hours that would be appreciated.

This is great Outreach as we can involve the youngsters of our community and it gives them the opportunity to learn about the different cribs and the true meaning of Christmas.  Thank you.  Sue and Linda.
