Remembrance Art

At Friday Fun Club this week children did lots of ”Poppy artwork’ which is displayed in church. They also took part in a parade around the church, visiting and looking at the memorial plaques in the Lady (or Peace) Chapel and thinking about people from Padstow who lost their lives in war.

            October 29th 2017– BIBLE SUNDAY

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

INTRODUCTION

Today we hear the promise of hope and the assurance of the trustworthiness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Secure in the knowledge of God’s promises, we worship him.

COLLECT FOR BIBLE SUNDAY

Blessed Lord, who caused all holy scriptures to be written for our learning:

help us so to hear them, to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them

that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word,

we may embrace and for ever hold fast the hope of everlasting life,

which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

READINGS FOR TODAY (Page 368/370)

First Reading                                                   Nehemiah 8:1-4a, 8-12

The rebuilt community in Jerusalem hears God’s word afresh, and offers us an example of an appropriate response of both shame and joy.

Second Reading                                                Colossians 3:12-17

The model Christian life involves forgiveness and understanding within the Christian community, and an attentiveness to what God desires.

Gospel                                                               St. Matthew 24:30-35

Hope for the judgment and renewal of the world rests on the words of Christ, which stand for ever.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

God of all grace, your Son Jesus Christ fed the hungry

with the bread of his life and the word of his kingdom:

renew your people with your heavenly grace,

and in all our weakness sustain us by your true and living bread;

who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen

DIOCESCAN ROADSHOW FOR THE DEANERY OF PYDAR –Responding to God’s Grace’. Our roadshow this year is aimed at those who care about the future of the Church in Cornwall and see themselves as active disciples, seeking to contribute to the life of the church and to the discovery of God’s Kingdom.

Being a follower of Jesus is about responding to what God has already given us in terms of his unconditional love, his forgiveness, his involvement in our lives and his overwhelming generosity.  In this year’s roadshow, we will look afresh at what God’s grave involves, and explore five practical areas in which our responses can be grounded.

The roadshow takes place on Tuesday, 31st October at St. Erme Community Centre, Cattle Field, Trispen, Truro. Refreshments at 6.30 for a 7.00 p.m. start.

Please do come and join us, and encourage others in your parishes to come too.

THANK YOU FROM SAINT PETROC’S SOCIETYI am writing to thank you, the congregation and members of St. Petroc’s Church Padstow for your very kind donation of food that we gratefully received at our resource centre in Truro.

Homelessness has become a major news topic recently, with numbers on the rise both nationally and locally.  This vulnerable section of society remains highly dependent on the kindness of people and organisations such as yourselves.

Thank you once again for your support

Sincerely, Linda Binny – Administrator.
