“Weekly News” for
THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW,
St. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR
October 22nd 2017– 19th Sunday After Trinity – (Proper 24)
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.
Introduction to worship
Today we are invited to explore the relationship between the sacred and the secular and to examine how our Christian faith affects our practical decisions.
THE COLLECT FOR THE 19TH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
O God, forasmuch as without you
we are not able to please you;
mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit
may in all things direct and rule our hearts;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
READINGS FOR TODAY – Proper 24 (Page 335/337)
First Reading Isaiah 45: 1-7
God uses the pagan king Cyrus to teach the people of Israel that he is Lord. Even though Cyrus does not acknowledge God, he performs God’s will.
Second Reading 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
When we receive the Good News and integrate it into our daily lives we, like the people of Thessalonica, become excellent examples of faith, hope and love.
Gospel St. Matthew 22:15-22
The Pharisees tried unsuccessfully to trick Jesus into choosing between God or Caesar. Putting God first does not mean we have to despise what is secular.
Post Communion Prayer
Holy and blessed God,
you have fed us with the body and blood of your Son
and filled us with your Holy Spirit:
May we honour you, not only with our lips
but in lives dedicated to the service of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

DIOCESCAN ROADSHOW FOR THE DEANERY OF PYDAR –‘ Responding to God’s Grace’. Our roadshow this year is aimed at those who care about the future of the Church in Cornwall and see themselves as active disciples, seeking to contribute to the life of the church and to the discovery of God’s Kingdom.
Being a follower of Jesus is about responding to what God has already given us in terms of his unconditional love, his forgiveness, his involvement in our lives and his overwhelming generosity. In this year’s roadshow, we will look afresh at what God’s grave involves, and explore five practical areas in which our responses can be grounded.
The roadshow takes place on Tuesday, 31st October at St. Erme Community Centre, Cattle Field, Trispen, Truro. Refreshments at 6.30 for a 7.00 p.m. start.
Please do come and join us, and encourage others in your parishes to come too.

THANK YOU FROM SAINT PETROC’S SOCIETY – I am writing to thank you, the congregation and members of St. Petroc’s Church Padstow for your very kind donation of food that we gratefully received at our resource centre in Truro.
Homelessness has become a major news topic recently, with numbers on the rise both nationally and locally. This vulnerable section of society remains highly dependent on the kindness of people and organisations such as yourselves.
Thank you once again for your support.
Sincerely, Linda Binny – Administrator.
A Message from the Roman Catholic Community – Our Mass on Saturday 28th October at 5.30pm is being offered by Fr Ciaran for Father Chris’s intentions, and in thanksgiving for his ministry for over 15 years in and around Padstow. Fr Chris will be present, and I want to assure you and your congregation that as many of you as would like to come to that, or indeed any, Mass would be most welcome. We will be having a short informal reception after that Mass in the church when we will raise a glass or two to Fr Chris. God Bless. Anthony Lee.
ST. PETROC’S NEWS MAGAZINE – The following comes from our forthcoming November issue of the Parish Magazine.
It is with great sadness that after the next issue of the magazine, that our Editor Chris Greaves will be stepping down from his post. We are so indebted to Chris for his years of hard work, dedication and the numerous hours that he has given to producing the magazine over many, many years.
Chris we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to you from St. Petroc’s, for all your hard work. We have been so very, very lucky to have had your dedication and commitment in producing this magazine.
So now we are looking for a new Editor to produce the magazine and also for an organiser to manage the distribution to all those stalwarts who go out in all weathers to distribute the magazine.
We are also very grateful to Geoff Spear who manages all the advertising and will continue to do this job. If you feel this is something that you could do or would like more information about, contact Sue Norfolk at the Benefice Office on 01841 532902 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
