“Weekly News” for

THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW,

ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR

  August 13th 2017– 9th Sunday After Trinity – (Proper 14)

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

 Introduction to worship

Let us come today to worship our heavenly Father who, in the midst of our weakness, brings us his strength and power.

THE COLLECT FOR THE NINTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY

Almighty God, who sent your Holy Spirit

to be the life and light of your church:  Open our hearts to the riches of your grace, that we may bring forth the fruit of thy Spirit

in love and joy and peace;

through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

The Lectionary Readings (Page 279/281)

Old Testament Reading                              1 Kings 19: 9-18

Elijah has just demonstrated the power of God but now faces the wrath of Jezebel, who threatens his life. He flees to Mount Horeb where he encounters God.

New Testament Reading                            Romans 10: 5-15

Paul deals with the position of the Jews now that the new covenant in Christ has come. Here he asserts that faith in Christ brings salvation.

Gospel Reading                                             St. Matthew 14:  22-33

Having just fed the five thousand, Jesus sends them home and instructs his disciples to set off across the lake without him, as he goes to pray. In the early hours of the morning, the disciples are shocked by a staggering sight approaching them on the water.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

Holy Father, who gathered us here around the table of your Son

to share this meal with the whole household of God:

In that new world where you reveal the fullness of your peace,

gather people of every race and language to share the eternal banquet of

Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

PLEASE, only use the car park if you really need to, we don’t want to see any cars getting damaged.  If you are using the car park for mid-week services, please park away from the church rooms area.  Any problems get in touch with your Churchwardens.  Thank you for your patience.

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

 Introduction to worship

We are called to open our hearts and lives to that transforming power so that we may shine as lights in the world to the glory of God the Father.

THE COLLECT FOR THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD

Father in heaven, whose Son Jesus Christ was wonderfully transfigured

before chosen witnesses upon the holy mountain,

and spoke of the exodus he would accomplish at Jerusalem:

Give us strength so to hear his voice and bear our cross

that in the world to come we may see him as he is;

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

THE READINGS (page 1169/1171)

Old Testament Reading                                Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14

The prophet has a vision of the throne of God and the glorious Son of Man being presented with all power and authority.

New Testament Reading                              2 Peter 1:16-19

Peter recalls his presence at the Transfiguration of the Lord and calls on his hearers to trust the prophetic word.

Gospel                                                                  St. Luke 9: 28-36

Christ is transfigured into radiant glory alongside Moses and Elijah; the two Old Testament figures who were also transformed by God’s glory.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

Holy God, we see your glory in the face of Jesus Christ:

may we who are partakers at his table

reflect his life in word and deed,

that all the world may know his power to change and save.

This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

THANK YOU EVERYONEThe Garden Party at Prideaux Place on Saturday 5th August saw huge crowds of adults plus children come through the gates of Prideaux Place in time to enjoy the opening of the Garden Party at 12.30 p.m. This year opened by Donna Birrell from BBC Radio Cornwall.

It was lovely to see so many families enjoying a relaxed and fun filled afternoon in the beautiful Prideaux Place gardens, taking time to browse the many stalls, enjoying the BBQ, cream teas, crepes, cakes and many other attractions.

We would like to thank everyone for all their help and support in making the Garden Party such a success. So many people gave their time, energy, money, transport, ideas and musical talent to make the day so successful and, on behalf of St. Petroc’s, we are so very grateful to you all for your support.

Special thanks, once again, to Mr and Mrs Prideaux-Brune and all their staff for their kind and generous hospitality in allowing us the use of the grounds as a wonderful location for the Garden Party.

Best wishes,

Tim Bishop and Sue Norfolk (Co-ordinators)
