“Weekly News” for
THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW,
ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR
August 27th 2017– 11th Sunday After Trinity – (Proper 16)
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.
Introduction to worship
Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” In this Eucharist we renew our recognition of Jesus as the risen Lord, and our commitment to follow him.
THE COLLECT FOR THE ELEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
O God, you declare your almighty power
most chiefly in showing mercy and pity:
mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace,
that we, running the way of your commandments,
may receive your gracious promises,
and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
THE READINGS (Lectionary Page 289/290)
First Reading Isaiah 51:1-6
We have two distinct messages. First is peace and restoration: “the Lord will comfort Zion”. The Second is of judgement: “the heavens will vanish like smoke”.
Second Reading: Romans 12:1-8
Paul exhorts members of the church at Rome to live peaceably with one another, and to recognise one another’s gifts.
Gospel: St. Matthew 16:13-20
Jesus confronts his disciples with two questions which are crucial to their understanding of the meaning and purpose of his ministry. Jesus’ future and theirs will depend upon the answers they give.
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Lord of all mercy, we your faithful people have celebrated that one true sacrifice which takes away our sins and brings pardon and peace:
By our communion keep us firm on the foundation of the gospel
and preserve us from all sin; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
THANK YOU – I would like to say a big THANK YOU for a truly wonderful welcome that I received when I came to St. Petroc’s to celebrate and preach. For me it was a great privilege to come back to my home parish and to have an opportunity to say thank you. I have been truly blessed with your friendship, prayers, words of encouragement and support over the past six years as I trained and then at my two ordinations of Deacon and Priest. Thank you all. God Bless. Revd. Kirsten.
‘Thank you Kirsten for a wonderful service’. Good luck in your future ministry.
