“Weekly News” for
THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW,
St. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR
July 2nd 2017– TRINITY 3 (Proper 8)
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.
Introduction to worship
We have freely chosen to follow Jesus Christ into our Father’s presence. We give thanks that he welcomes us with open arms, pouring out his Spirit upon us as we rejoice in his gift of eternal life.
THE COLLECT FOR THE DAY
Almighty God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts whereby we call you Father:
give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service,
that we and all creation may be brought to the glorious liberty
of the children of God;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
READINGS (Proper 8 – Page 245/247)
First Reading Jeremiah 28:5-9
When two people (or groups) claim to speak for God, only time will tell who was right; meanwhile people of faith should pray that God’s will be done.
Second Reading Romans 6:12-23
As “slaves” of God we are in fact freed from slavery to selfish preoccupations that can only separate us from God; we freely choose to serve him and he freely offers us eternal life.
Gospel Matthew 10:40-42
Sending out his disciples to continue his own mission of teaching and healing, Jesus reassures and challenges, giving both credentials and responsibility: those who welcome them are welcoming God into their lives.
O God, whose beauty is beyond our imagining and whose power we cannot comprehend: Show us your glory as far as we can grasp it,
and shield us from knowing more than we can bear until we may look upon you without fear; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen
CHURCH ROOMS – The Church car park over the next few weeks are going to be extremely busy with the scaffolding going up around the rooms, demolition equipment, lorries bringing materials, as well as the ongoing tower renovations. PLEASE, PLEASE, only use the car park if you really need to, we don’t want to see any cars getting damaged. If you are using the car park for mid-week services, please park away from the church rooms area. Any problems get in touch with your Churchwardens. Thank you for your patience. Sue & Linda.
