“Weekly News” for
THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW,
MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR
June 25th 2017– TRINITY 2 (Proper 7)
A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.
Introduction to worship
Lord, you have taught us that all our doings without love are nothing worth:
Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtues,
without which whoever lives is counted dead before you.
Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ’s sake,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
READINGS (Proper 7 – Page 239/241)
First Reading Jeremiah 20:7-13
Those who are denounced and rejected by people are supported, strengthened and loved by God and used by God in his plan for the world.
Second Reading Romans 6:1b-11
God’s great generosity to us is not evoked by sin, but is an expression of his love for us. Christ’s death has freed us from sin so that we might enjoy a new kind of life.
Gospel St. Matthew 10:24-39
Jesus warns that his followers will be denounced and rejected, so he reminds them not to fear people who can only hurt the body but to fear the insidious nature of evil which can hurt the soul.
Loving Father, we thank you for feeding us at the supper of your Son:
Sustain us with your Spirit, that we may serve you here on earth
until our joy is complete in heaven,
and we share in the eternal banquet with Jesus Christ our Lord.
CHURCH ROOMS – The Church car park over the next few weeks are going to be extremely busy with the scaffolding going up around the rooms, demolition equipment, lorries bringing materials, as well as the ongoing tower renovations. PLEASE, PLEASE, only use the car park if you really need to, we don’t want to see any cars getting damaged. If you are using the car park for mid-week services, please park away from the church rooms area. Any problems get in touch with your Churchwardens. Thank you for your patience. Sue & Linda.
Correction to Lloyds Bank mobile banking information – We were wrongly informed that you wouldn’t be able to pay cheques via the mobile banking system. This information is incorrect you are able to pay in your cheques.
Roofing Scam – There has been a spate of cold calls by a seemingly pleasant young man offering to do roof repairs and saying he has been recommended by a neighbour. Please be aware that this is a scam and don’t part with any money. Please keep a watch on your vulnerable and elderly neighbours and report anything suspicious to the Police.
