“Weekly News” for

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

Introduction to worship

Jesus will soon return to the Father, but in today’s gospel he promises to send the Spirit of truth on the disciples.

God our redeemer, you have delivered us from the power of darkness

and brought us into the kingdom of your Son:

Grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life,

so by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen

THE READINGS FOR TODAY                              (Padstow and TrevonePage 181/183)

First Reading                                                                   Acts 17: 22-31

Paul taught the Greeks with examples they understood, that Jesus was a human person but is also a God who is approachable and close at hand and beyond compare.

Second Reading                                                                1 Peter 3: 13-22

Our relationship with Christ affects all our contact with others, even our whole lives. We convey the truth of God by our courtesy and integrity rather than by any extravagant demonstration.

Gospel                                                                                St. John 14: 15-21

Although he is returning to the Father, Jesus will remain with his disciples through the life of the Holy Spirit – guiding, encouraging and strengthening then in the way of love.

God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life:

May we thirst for you, the spring of life and source of goodness,

through him who is alive and reigns, now and for ever.   Amen.

CHURCH ROOMS –  The Church car park over the next few weeks are going to be extremely busy with the scaffolding going up around the rooms, demolition equipment, lorries bringing materials, as well as the ongoing tower renovations.  PLEASE, PLEASE, only use the car park if you really need to, we don’t want to see any cars getting damaged.  If you are using the car park for mid-week services, please park away from the church rooms area.  Any problems get in touch with your Churchwardens.  Thank you for your patience.  Sue & Linda.

PRAYER & WORSHIP  – 6.30 p.m.

Everyone welcome

Thy Kingdom Come – ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ is a prayer initiative started by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, which is now spreading across the world and into all sorts of churches.  In the nine days between Ascension Day and Pentecost (25th May – 4June 2017) we are encouraged to pray, together with Christians worldwide, for people to know Jesus Christ and for the empowering of the Holy Spirit.

There will be all sorts of events taking place in your locality, through Churches Together and within individual churches – do commit yourself to join in with this global movement.  There will also be a large-scale, ecumenical Prayer Event in Truro Cathedral on the evening of Sunday 28th May.  The series of services and prayer activities start at 4pm – please check on the diocesan website for details, This is a great opportunity to be with Christians from all over Cornwall, praying for the people of Cornwall to know the love of God in and through Jesus Christ.

There is a wide range of resources which you can find on

A couple of really useful books are: ‘How to pray; alone with others, at any time, in any place’ by Stephen Cottrell, and ‘How to pray; a user’s guide’ by John Pritchard.
