“Weekly News” for

THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW, ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR

May 28th 2017– SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

Introduction to worship

O God the King of Glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ

with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven:

We beseech you, leave us not comfortless,

but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place

where our Saviour Christ is gone before,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen

TODAY’S READINGS                                      (Padstow and Trevone Page 189/191)

First Reading                                                      Acts 1: 6-14

Jesus is taken into heaven. But the disciples remain together and united in prayer, awaiting the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Second Reading                                                1 Peter 4: 12-14; 5. 6-11

The pain of suffering for being Christian may not be different to the pain of other suffering, but Christ blesses with the gift of the Spirit those who risk all for him.

Gospel                                                                  St. John 17: 1-11

Jesus’ prayer gives us not only an insight into his relationship with the Father but also the certain knowledge of how we are saved through his relationship with us.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Eternal God, giver of love and power,

your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into all the world

to preach the gospel of his kingdom:

Confirm us in this mission,

and help us to live the good news we proclaim;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

“Weekly News” for

THE UNITED BENEFICE OF PADSTOW, ST. MERRYN and ST. ISSEY with ST. PETROC MINOR

May 21st 2017– SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

Introduction to worship

Jesus will soon return to the Father, but in today’s gospel he promises to send the Spirit of truth on the disciples.

THE COLLECT

God our redeemer, you have delivered us from the power of darkness

and brought us into the kingdom of your Son:

Grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life,

so by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen

THE READINGS FOR TODAY                              (Padstow and TrevonePage 181/183)

First Reading                                                                   Acts 17: 22-31

Paul taught the Greeks with examples they understood, that Jesus was a human person but is also a God who is approachable and close at hand and beyond compare.

Second Reading                                                                1 Peter 3: 13-22

Our relationship with Christ affects all our contact with others, even our whole lives. We convey the truth of God by our courtesy and integrity rather than by any extravagant demonstration.

Gospel                                                                                St. John 14: 15-21

Although he is returning to the Father, Jesus will remain with his disciples through the life of the Holy Spirit – guiding, encouraging and strengthening then in the way of love.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life:

May we thirst for you, the spring of life and source of goodness,

through him who is alive and reigns, now and for ever.   Amen.
