                                         St. Merryn and St. Issey with St. Petroc Minor

                                        March 19thth 2017 – THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

                                         A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

INTRODUCTION

As we need to quench our bodily thirst, so do we need to quench our spiritual thirst, our deep desire and need for God.

THE COLLECT

Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy

but first he suffered pain,

and entered not into glory before he was crucified:

mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross,

may find it none other than the way of life and peace;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen

TODAY’S READINGS (pages 93/96)

Old Testament Reading                                                Exodus 17: 1-7

The Israelites were thirsty and rebellious, doubting God and Moses. But God answers doubts and provides for his people when they listen to his word.

New Testament Reading                                              Romans 5: 1-11

Like water onto a parched land, God’s Spirit has been poured into our hearts and Christ has shown his love for us by dying to set us free.

Gospel                                                                                 St. John 4: 5-42

Jesus offered the living water and the living bread to all people, even his enemies. And today, all are welcome at the fountain head of life.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Merciful Lord, grant your people grace to withstand the temptations

of the world, the flesh and the devil,

and with pure hearts and minds to follow you, the only God;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

WATER AID FOR LENT – Your journey to help reach everyone with clean water starts here!  With your support, this Lent will be life-changing.

Whether you are ditching the chocolate, going without the fizz or hiding the car keys, your Jars of Change journey will mean clean water for more girls like Hasina  in Madagascar.

We all give up things for Lent, so how about taking up the “Jars of Change Journey”   On display at the back of the church you will see a display raising awareness for WaterAid.  Please help give the gift of clean water by either making a donation or by filling a jar of change.  There will be a bucket for your donations in Padstow and Trevone every Sunday until Easter Sunday.  If you take up the “Jar of Change Journey” return your jar of change to either Sue Norfolk (Padstow) or Sue Hollingsworth (Trevone) on Easter Sunday.

POETRY GROUP  ST ISSEY, PADSTOW and ST MERRYN

Do you enjoy poetry? We are a small group who meet in each other’s homes every 4 –6 weeks. The group has been going for many years and more recently was led by the late Phillip Mossman. A poet or subject is chosen and we each go away to research the poet and select poems we would like to share over afternoon tea. For many years the late Revd Barry Kinsmen delighted us with his spoken word and wonderful recitation of the poems of Charles Causley and John Betjeman.
