“Weekly News” for the Parishes of Padstow,

St. Merryn and St. Issey with St. Petroc Minor

January 22nd 2017 – THIRD SUNDAY OF EPIPHANY

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today.

   INTRODUCTION

Jesus is the light of the world and his light will continue to shine forth in our lives when, with joy, we gather in his name to respond to the invitation he makes to each one of us to follow him.

THE COLLECT

Almighty God, whose Son revealed in signs and miracles the wonder of your saving presence  Renew your people with your heavenly grace, and in all our weakness sustain us by your mighty power; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and

for ever. Amen

 THE READINGS

Old Testament Reading                                Isaiah 9:1-4

The light of the Lord’s glory dawns on even the remotest parts of the Promised Land. He will free all his people from oppression.

New Testament Reading                              1 Corinthians 1:10-18

Paul has heard that there are arguments going on within the church in Corinth. In order to stop this dangerous development he reminds his readers of their baptism — a sign of unity in Christ — of the power of God.

 Gospel                                                                  St. Matthew 4:12-23

Matthew ends the introduction to his Gospel. Before he records the Sermon on the Mount, he explains that Jesus’ ministry begins in Galilee, where the first disciples immediately accept the call to follow him.

 POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

Almighty Father, whose Son our Saviour Jesus Christ is the light of the world:  May your people, illumined by your word and sacraments, shine with the radiance of his glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; for he is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen
