The Parish of Padstow
(St. Petroc’s, Padstow & St. Saviour’s, Trevone)
15th SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY-PROPER 18 – Sunday 4th September

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today
Please take our love and prayers to your home parish

OUR INTENTION TODAY
We were lost but the Lord our God has found us. He wants us to come home to Him.

COLLECT
God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit
upon your Church in the burning fire of your love:
Grant that your people may be fervent
in the fellowship of the gospel that,
always abiding in you,
they may be found steadfast in faith and active in service;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

READINGS FOR TODAY (Lectionary Page 1032/34)
First Reading Deuteronomy 30.15-20
Before they enter the Promised Land, God gives the Israelites a choice: prosperity or destruction.

Second Reading Philemon 1-21
Paul offers to pay Philemon the cost of his slave’s redemption.

Gospel St. Luke 14.25-33
Jesus demands total commitment from his followers. Becoming a Christian is not a decision to be taken lightly.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER
Keep, O Lord, your Church, with your perpetual mercy;
and, because without you our human frailty cannot but fall,
keep us ever by your help from all things hurtful,
and lead us to all things profitable to our salvation;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Psalm 1 (St. Petroc’s )
1 Blessed are they who have not walked in the counsel of the wicked, ¨nor lingered in the way of sinners, nor sat in the assembly of the scornful.
2 Their delight is in the law of the Lord ¨ and they meditate on his law day and night.
3 Like a tree planted by streams of water bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither, ¨ whatever they do, it shall prosper.
4 As for the wicked, it is not so with them; ¨ they are like chaff which the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked shall not be able to stand in the judgement, ¨ nor the sinner in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, ¨ but the way of the wicked shall perish.
