OUR INTENTION TODAY

To follow Jesus’ example is our first priority – people are more important than rules

 THE COLLECT

Almighty God, who called your Church to bear witness
that you were in Christ reconciling the world to yourself:
help us to proclaim the good news of your love,
that all who hear it may be drawn to you;
through him who was lifted up on the cross,
and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

THE READINGS Page 1021/22

Isaiah 58:9b-14

The demoralised Jewish community is promised restoration if they are willing to obey God’s demand for justice.

Second Reading                                   Hebrews 12:18-29

Through Jesus we are able to approach the all-powerful and terrifying God, but we should do so with appropriate reverence.

Gospel                                     St. Luke 13:10-17

Jesus defies the laws of the Sabbath to heal a crippled woman.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

God our creator,

you feed your children with the true manna,
the living bread from heaven:

let this holy food sustain us through our earthly pilgrimage
until we come to that place where hunger and thirst are no more;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

PSALM FOR TODAY:  Psalm 103 1 – 8 (St. Petroc’s)

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, ¨  and all that is within me bless his holy name.

2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, ¨  and forget not all his benefits;

3 Who forgives all your sins ¨  and heals all your infirmities;

4 Who redeems your life from the Pit ¨  and crowns you with faithful love and compassion;

5 Who satisfies you with good things, ¨  so that your youth is renewed like an eagle’s.

6 The Lord executes righteousness ¨  and judgement for all who are oppressed.

7 He made his ways known to Moses ¨  and his works to the children of Israel.

The Parish of Padstow
(St. Petroc’s, Padstow & St. Saviour’s, Trevone)
12th SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY-PROPER 15 – Sunday 14th August

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

INTRODUCTION
The Good News is not joyfully received by everyone. Those who try to spread the Gospel message often face hostility and rejection. We celebrate God’s presence and his victory over evil and death.

THE COLLECT
Almighty and everlasting God,
you are always more ready to hear than we to pray and to give more than either we desire or deserve: Pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

THE READINGS (Page 1015/1017)
First Reading Jeremiah 23:23-29
God indicates the difference between true and false prophets.

Second Reading Hebrews 11: 29 -12:2
Devotion to God is built on a foundation of faith from which we proceed.

Gospel St. Luke 12:49-56
Christianity may lead to division between those who accept Christ and those who do not. The cost of discipleship can be higher than we realise.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER
God of all mercy, in this Eucharist you have set aside our sins
and given us your healing:
Grant that we who are made whole in Christ
may bring that healing to this broken world,
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Psalm 82 (Trevone only)
1 God has taken his stand in the council of heaven; ¨ in the midst of the gods he gives judgement:
2 ‘How long will you judge unjustly ¨ and show such favour to the wicked?
3 ‘You were to judge the weak and the orphan; ¨ defend the right of the humble and needy;
4 ‘Rescue the weak and the poor; ¨ deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
5 ‘They have no knowledge or wisdom; they walk on still in darkness: ¨ all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 ‘Therefore I say that though you are gods ¨ and all of you children of the Most High,
7 ‘Nevertheless, you shall die like mortals ¨ and fall like one of their princes.’
8 Arise, O God and judge the earth, ¨ for it is you that shall take all nations for
your possession.

The anniversary of the death of Nicholas Watts is on Sunday August 21st. Watts was a Padstow mariner who died in 1632 and left money to pay the ringers to ring in his memory each year. So our Sunday ringing on August 21st will be ‘Watts’ Knell’, in his memory.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU – to everyone who organized, helped, fetched and carried, donated prizes, collected, baked, manned stalls and entertained in any way for the Prideaux Place Garden Party and The Novelty Dog Show, Fete and BBQ . Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Prideaux-Brune , also The Well Parc for being very generous hosts for these two events. 11th SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY-PROPER 14 – Sunday 7th August
THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

INTRODUCTION
We are called to open our hearts and lives to that transforming power so that we may shine as lights in the world to the glory of God the Father.

THE COLLECT FOR THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD
Father in heaven, whose Son Jesus Christ was wonderfully transfigured before chosen witnesses upon the holy mountain, and spoke of the exodus he would accomplish at Jerusalem: Give us strength so to hear his voice and bear our cross that in the world to come we may see him as he is; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

THE READINGS (page 1168/1171)
Old Testament Reading Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14
The prophet has a vision of the throne of God and the glorious Son of Man being presented with all power and authority.

New Testament Reading 2 Peter 1:16-19
Peter recalls his presence at the Transfiguration of the Lord and calls on his hearers to trust the prophetic word.

Gospel St. Luke 9: 28-36
Christ is transfigured into radiant glory alongside Moses and Elijah; the two Old Testament figures who were also transformed by God’s glory.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Holy God, we see your glory in the face of Jesus Christ: May we who are partakers at his table reflect his life in word and deed, that all the world may know his power to change and save. This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Psalm 33: 12 – end (Padstow only)
12 Happy the nation whose God is the Lord ¨ and the people he has chosen for his own.
13 The Lord looks down from heaven ¨ and beholds all the children of earth.
14 From where he sits enthroned he turns his gaze ¨ on all who dwell on the earth.
15 He fashions all the hearts of them ¨ and understands all their works.
16 No king is saved by the might of his host; ¨ no warrior delivered by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; ¨ for all its strength it cannot save.
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him, ¨ on those who wait in hope for his steadfast love,
19 To deliver their soul from death ¨ and to feed them in time of famine.
20 Our soul waits longingly for the Lord; ¨ he is our help and our shield.
21 Indeed, our heart rejoices in him; ¨ in his holy name have we put our trust.
22 Let your loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, ¨ as we have set our hope on you.
