The Parish of Padstow
(St. Petroc’s, Padstow & St. Saviour’s, Trevone)
5th Sunday after Trinity (Proper 8) Sunday 26th June

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

INTRODUCTION
We celebrate this holy Eucharist as neighbours together in Christ. We affirm our fellowship with each other, and bring to God the needs of our neighbours.

THE COLLECT FOR THE DAY
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified: Hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people, that in their vocation and ministry they may serve you in holiness and truth to the glory of your name; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever Amen.

READINGS (Proper 8 – Page 975/977 of Lectionary)
First Reading 1 Kings 19:15-16,19-21
The Lord ministers to an exhausted Elijah and instructs him to anoint Elisha as his successor. Elisha responds with total commitment.

Second Reading Galatians 5:1,13-25
Freed from the law’s demands, we are to use our freedom in Christ to live by the Spirit who grows Christ’s character in us.

Gospel St. Luke 9:51-62
As he journeys to Jerusalem, Jesus faces hostility, misunderstanding, and the failure of would-be followers to count the cost of discipleship.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER
Grant, O Lord, we beseech you, that the course of this world may be so peaceably ordered by your governance, that your Church may joyfully serve you in all godly quietness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Psalm 16 (Trevone only)
1 Preserve me, O God, for in you have I taken refuge; ¨ I have said to the Lord, ‘You are my lord, all my good depends on you.’
2 All my delight is upon the godly that are in the land, ¨ upon those who are noble in heart.
3 Though the idols are legion that many run after, ¨ their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, neither make mention of their names upon my lips.
4 The Lord himself is my portion and my cup; ¨ in your hands alone is my fortune.
5 My share has fallen in a fair land; ¨ indeed, I have a goodly heritage.
6 I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel, ¨ and in the night watches he instructs my heart.
7 I have set the Lord always before me; ¨ he is at my right hand; I shall not fall.
8 Wherefore my heart is glad and my spirit rejoices; ¨ my flesh also shall rest secure.
9 For you will not abandon my soul to Death, ¨ nor suffer your faithful one to see the Pit.
10 You will show me the path of life; in your presence is the fullness of joy ¨ and in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.

(St. Petroc’s, Padstow & St. Saviour’s, Trevone)
4th Sunday after Trinity (Proper 7) Sunday 19th June

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

INTRODUCTION
Today we are reminded that, however important our past, we are people of the present and future. Let us dedicate ourselves today to spread the gospel and offer to others the hope which God gives to us.

THE COLLECT FOR THE DAY
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that with you as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not our hold on things eternal; grant this, heavenly Father, for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

READINGS (Proper 7 – Page 969/971)
First Reading Isaiah 65:1-9
God constantly offers himself to a people who reject him and who act against his, and their own, interests. But salvation remains on offer to all.

Second Reading Galatians 3:23-29
Through Christ there is no distinction between us. Together we enjoy the freedom of family members in a new and more intimate relationship with God.

Gospel St. Luke 8:26-39
God can take us, in all our weakness, and recreate his damaged creation. Then he can send us away to do his work as though nothing had intervened. We are healed!

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER
Eternal God, comfort of the afflicted and healer of the broken,
you have fed us at the table of life and hope:
Teach us the ways of gentleness and peace,
that all the world may acknowledge
the kingdom of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Psalm 22: 19-28 (Padstow only)
19 Be not far from me, O Lord; ¨ you are my strength; hasten to help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword, ¨ my poor life from the power of the dog.
21 Save me from the lion’s mouth, from the horns of wild oxen. ¨ You have answered me!
22 I will tell of your name to my people; ¨ in the midst of the congregation will I praise you.
23 Praise the Lord, you that fear him; ¨ O seed of Jacob, glorify him; stand in awe of him, O seed of Israel.
24 For he has not despised nor abhorred the suffering of the poor; neither has he hidden his face from them; ¨
but when they cried to him he heard them.
25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation; ¨ I will perform my vows in the presence of those that fear you.
26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied; ¨ those who seek the Lord shall praise him; their hearts shall live forever.
27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, ¨ and all the families of the nations shall bow before him.
28 For the kingdom is the Lord’s ¨ and he rules over the nations.

The Parish of Padstow
(St. Petroc’s, Padstow & St. Saviour’s, Trevone)
3rd Sunday after Trinity Proper 6 Sunday 12th June

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

INTRODUCTION
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Sinners and trespassers as we are, we acknowledge that he came to offer his love and forgiveness to all.

THE COLLECT FOR THE DAY
Almighty God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts whereby we call you Father: Give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service, that we and all creation may be brought to the glorious liberty of the children of God; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

READINGS (Proper 6 – Page 962/964)
First Reading 2 Samuel 11: 26-12:10,13-15
Sin and wrong doing cannot be concealed from God. The prophet Nathan challenges King David who, seeing how he has offended God, repents with all his heart.

First Reading Galatians 2:15-21
Paul argues, very emphatically, that faith in Christ is enough. Through our faith in Christ we are accepted by God, just as we are.

Gospel Reading St. Luke 7:36-8:3
If we each come to Jesus recognising we are sinners and recognising our need of forgiveness he offers his forgiveness without limit, as he does his love. Receiving that forgiving love we cannot but respond with unqualified love.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER
O God, whose beauty is beyond our imagining and whose power we cannot comprehend: Show us your glory as far as we can grasp it, and shield us from knowing more than we can bear until we may look upon you without fear; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
Psalm 32 (Trevone Only)
1 Happy the one whose transgression is forgiven, ¨ and whose sin is covered.
2 Happy the one to whom the Lord imputes no guilt, ¨ and in whose spirit there is no guile.
3 For I held my tongue; ¨ my bones wasted away through my groaning all the day long.
4 Your hand was heavy upon me day and night; ¨ my moisture was dried up like the drought in summer.
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you ¨ and my iniquity I did not hide.
6 I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’ ¨ and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
7 Therefore let all the faithful make their prayers to you in time of trouble; ¨ in the great water flood, it shall not reach them.
8 You are a place for me to hide in; you preserve me from trouble; ¨ you surround me with songs of deliverance.
9 ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go; ¨ I will guide you with my eye.
10 ‘Be not like horse and mule which have no understanding; ¨ whose mouths must be held with bit and bridle,
or else they will not stay near you.’
11 Great tribulations remain for the wicked, ¨ but mercy embraces those who trust in the Lord.
12 Be glad, you righteous, and rejoice in the Lord; ¨ shout for joy, all who are true of heart.

THE COLLECT IN HONOUR OF ST. PETROC
Almighty God, by whose grace Petroc, kindled with the fire of your love,
became a burning and a shining light in the church:
Inflame us with the same spirit of discipline and love,
that we may ever walk before you as children of light;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

Gospel Reading St. Luke 9: 1-6
Jesus sends out his disciples to preach and teach. St. Petroc followed their example.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER FOR ST. PETROC (Trevone only)
Merciful God, who gave such grace to your servant Petroc that he served you with singleness of heart and loved you above all things:
Help us, whose communion with you has been renewed in this Sacrament,
to forsake all that holds us back from following Christ and to grow into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
