The Parish of Padstow (St. Petroc’s, Padstow & St. Saviour’s, Trevone)

Sixth Sunday of Easter, 1st May 2016

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

Introduction and call to worship

We come together in this Eucharist to renew our vision of God – the God who promises the gift of his Holy Spirit to dwell within us, to revitalise and empower us, and to guide us to his own eternal presence.

THE COLLECT

God our redeemer, you have delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your Son:  Grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life, so by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

THE READINGS FOR TODAY (Page 911/913)

First Reading                                                                         Acts of the Apostles 16: 9-15

In a vision, Paul sees a man of Macedonia appealing to him “to come over and help us”.  He immediately responds, and thus begins to preach the Gospel in Europe.

 Second Reading                                                                           Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5

John has a vision of the heavenly Jerusalem, whose temple and source of light is God himself.

 Gospel Reading                                                                                                      John 5.1-9

Jesus heals the sick man by the pool of Bethzatha.

 POST-COMMUNION PRAYER

God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life: May we thirst for you, the spring of life and source of goodness, through him who is alive and reigns, now and for ever.  Amen

 DEANERY SERVICE

In the past the Deanery of Pydar has held an annual service for all the parishes on All Saints Day or All Saints Sunday.

This year it has been decided that we hold this service on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 5th at 7.00 p.m. at St. Eval Parish Church.  The Celebrant and preacher will be the Dean of the Cathedral The Very Revd. Roger Bush.

Everyone is invited to be with us at this service as it is a good opportunity for all the parishes of Pydar deanery to come together to pray and support one another.   Fr. Chris

 ARCHDEACON’S VISITATION

On Monday, May 16th at St. St. Michael’s Newquay Parish Church at 7.30 p.m. the Churchwardens elected for this year, Ron Olivey, Sue Hollingsworth, Linda Morey and Sue Norfolk will be sworn in as Churchwardens by the Venerable  Bill Stuart-White, archdeacon of Cornwall and the Diocesan Registrar.  Churchwardens are the Bishop’s officers and hold a legal status.

Everyone is invited to join the wardens at this special service and please hold them all in your prayers as they “officially” take up their duties for 2016 -17.  My thanks to them, for being willing to serve for another year in the life of our parish.   Fr. Chris

 CONFIRMATION – 2016

I am delighted to report that we have TWO adult candidates for Confirmation this year. If you would like to consider Confirmation please let me know so that we can arrange classes for children and adults in preparation.

Please think about it and if you would like an informal chat give me a ring. (533776)   Fr. Chris.

THANK YOU ALL – from Gill Malkinson

A big, big thank you to those who were such a support after my misadventure in church during the Maundy Thursday evening service and to all who have been so kind and thoughtful since.

Thank you for the cards and gifts I’ve received and for the many offers of help and expressions of concern you have made to Chris.

You will never know how very much it has been appreciated.  I am so grateful.  Thank you.
