THE CORACLE APPEAL

In last month’s edition of “St. Petroc News” I wrote that we were expecting to have the final decision on the main grant of just over £200,000 towards the cost of repairs to the tower during March.
The BAD news is that specification for the work was not approved in time so we had to ask for a time extension for the final figures. We still don’t know the final out come. However, the GOOD news is that we are still in the running as Heritage Lottery have allowed an extension until June 8th as the specification for the work had to be approved by the Historic England architect and we didn’t receive it until February 19th. This meant that it was impossible to get the job priced before the deadline of March 8th.
If we are successful in our bid in June the job will start in October this year. Keep your fingers tightly crossed for us as we continue to wait with bated breath!! If you are technically minded and would like to see the specification I have a copy at the vicarage which you can borrow with pleasure. I so, so hope we are successful with the grant application so we can complete the restoration of our beautiful 15th century parish church.
Thanks to everyone who continues to support “The Coracle Appeal” as we need every penny we can get to enable us to put in our contribution to the extensive work on the tower. Fr. Chris.

EVERYTHING IS WAKING UP!!
Although Easter is over, the time of celebrating new birth, it seems that nature has been a little quick for us this year with things way ahead of usual for the new season.

Of course with Easter being so early we don’t usually expect too much, but this year everything is well advanced due the very mild winter we had.

Spring is a marvellous time of the year when we can truly see the wonder of God’s creation. Trees which appear to be dead suddenly send out shoots of new growth as the earth warms up for another year.
The daffodils and the tulips are still in full bloom and the grass is growing like mad. The gardeners out in force to get rid of the weeds before they take over the garden.

As we all begin this new season in our gardens let us not forget who makes it all possible for us to grow our flowers and crops

A Gardener’s Prayer
Father, Thank you for my garden and for each tiny seed that sprouts and blooms so beautifully to fill my soul’s true need.
I ask You for Your Blessing upon my little plot of land, may it grow and flourish guided by Your hand.
Thank you for the pleasure I find here on bended knee, and in each flower that blossoms as a blessing sent from Thee. Amen.

As our gardens spring to life for another growing season so, too, is our town of Padstow springing into life for another holiday season. The visitors come to us to find a place of peace and beauty and to have a relaxing holiday. We hope that will happen for everyone who comes this year and may I wish all those involved in giving people a good holiday a very successful (but not TOO busy) 2016 no matter what you are doing.

Padstow is a truly beautiful place with so much to offer so let’s all do what we can to make our visitors feel welcome.
May God bless you all this season. Fr. Chris

TO ALL THE CAST AND CREW OF “GODSPELL”
Thank you ALL for the truly fabulous show you gave us on March 16th, 17th 18th & 19th
Thank you ALL for your hours and hours of rehearsing and time spent in preparing for the show.
Thank you ALL for your enthusiasm, commitment and great sense of fun and enjoyment over these past weeks.
Thank you ALL for the wonderful music, singing, acting and dancing
THANK YOU ALL – FOR EVERYTHING.
We have had the most amazing comments from so many people and I hope that you are all duly proud of yourselves for the praise you have totally deserved. Bless you all for giving your time to raise funds for the restoration of our Parish Church.
A special word of thanks to Andrea Curnow who masterminded the whole thing and produced and directed the show; to Tom Howard for all his work with band, chorus and performance; Angela Reskelly for her wonderful choreography. Together they have enthused the performers and brought the show to fruition. The result was amazing, not only as a show, but also as outreach into the community of Padstow and beyond.

SERVICE PATTERN FOR THE PARISH OF PADSTOW

It is with the help of clergy in the deanery, the cathedral and senior staff team that we have been able to offer Eucharists in all three parishes from the time of Canon Julia’s illness and death through until Easter.

From the first week of April until the end of May we will continue to have Eucharists in both St. Petroc’s and St. Saviour’s every Sunday. The time for the service in St. Petroc’s is now permanently at 11.00 a.m. and will not revert to 10.45 a.m. as previously. Also there will be 8.00 a.m. Holy Communion on the first and third Sundays of the month only.

From June, when our Worship Leaders have completed their training, we will move to a pattern of 2 Eucharists and 2 non-Eucharistic services each month. This will release me to offer Eucharists in the parishes of St. Merryn and St. Issey with St. Petroc Minor on the Sundays I am not in Padstow.
I offer my thanks to those who are in training as Worship Leaders as they will allow us to keep to the tradition of a service each Sunday in both our churches in the parish of Padstow. Those in training are:

Andrea Curnow, Keith Fyleman, Jan Fisher, Fiona Giorla,
Sue Norfolk and Martin Saunders.

They complete their course by the middle of May so will begin their new ministries in the parish from June. We wish them every success with the training and I hope and pray that our congregations will support them as they begin to lead worship in the parish.

It all sounds very complicated I know but once we get going with the new pattern of worship in June I’m sure we’ll all get used to it. Just hope I don’t keep going to the wrong church!!!

Bless you all for being so understanding and positive to what we are having to do in order for me to look after my two “new” parishes.
Fr. Chris.
