Fifth Sunday of Easter, 24th April 2016

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

Introduction and call to worship
We come to Christ in love to worship him. May he open our hearts to his love, so that we may love as he has loved us.

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that, as by your grace going before us you put into our minds good desires, so by your continual help we may bring them to good effect; through Jesus Christ our risen Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

First Reading Acts 11:1-18
Peter criticised for his work with the Gentiles in Caesarea, answers his critics by making clear that what he has done is the will of God. Jesus is for Gentiles – all people – as well as for Jews.

Second Reading Revelation 21:1-6
John sets out his vision of a new creation, a holy city. That city is a picture of the people of God. It is a vision of a bride ready to be married to Christ. In Christ God is making all things new; he is both the Creator and the goal.

Gospel St. John 13:31-35
The betrayer, Judas, leaves Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, and so only the ‘inner circle’ of his disciples hears Jesus’ parting words that in loving one another – as Jesus has loved them – he, Jesus, will be with them, and in them, always.

Eternal God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life: Grant us to walk in his way, to rejoice in his truth, and to share his risen life; who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen
