Newsletter – 3 April 2016

The Parish of Padstow
(St. Petroc’s, Padstow & St. Saviour’s, Trevone)
Second Sunday of Easter, 3rd April 2016

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

We believe but did not see the rising of the Lord. Alleluia! Let us praise the risen Lord Jesus Christ.
Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins and to rise again for our justification: Grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth; through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

First Reading Acts 5:27-32
The apostles find the strength to speak the gospel of the risen Lord, despite the dangers. The power of the Holy Spirit has turned them into people of action.

Second Reading Revelation 1:4-8
A message to the early church in Asia about the power of Christ and the fact that God is from the beginning until the end of time the Almighty one.

Gospel St. John 20:19-31
Thomas the blunt one! Who could blame him for struggling to understand what others had told him. The idea that Jesus was alive was truly amazing and there would be more signs to come.

Lord God our Father, through our Saviour Jesus Christ you have assured your children of eternal life and in baptism have made us one with him: Deliver us from the death of sin and raise us to new life in your love, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

GARDEN PARTY 2016 – August 6th at Prideaux Place
There will be an open planning meeting in the Church Rooms on SATURDAY, APRIL 9th 10.30a.m. in the Church Rooms. If there is any way you can help at this major fund raising event PLEASE come to the meeting and offer your ideas, help, support and anything else you can bring with you.
We are very lucky to have been given this date by Peter and Elisabeth Prideaux-Brune so let’s not waste this opportunity to raise a lot of money for “The Coracle Appeal”. If you cannot make this meeting but could offer help then please let either Sue Norfolk or Tim Bishop know. Thank You.

The Church Electoral Roll now stands at 139-an increase of 2.

It is with the help of clergy in the deanery, the cathedral staff and senior staff team that we have been able to offer Eucharists in all three Parishes from the time of Canon Julia’s illness and death through until Easter.

From the first week of April until the end of May we will continue to have Eucharists in both St. Petroc’s and St. Saviour’s every Sunday. The time for the services in St. Petroc’s is now permanently at 11.00 a.m. and will not revert to 10.45 a.m. as previously. Also there will be 8.00 a.m. Holy Communion on the first and third Sundays of the month only.

From June, when our Worship Leaders have completed their training, we will move to a pattern of 2 Eucharists and 2 non-Eucharistic services each month. This will release me to offer Eucharists in the parishes of St. Merryn and St. Issey with St. Petroc Minor on the Sundays I am not in Padstow. I offer my thanks to those who are training as Worship Leaders as they will allow us to keep to the tradition of a Service each Sunday in both our churches in the Parish of Padstow. Those in training are:

Andrea Curnow, Keith Fyleman, Jan Fisher, Fiona Giorla,
Sue Norfolk and Martin Saunders.

They complete their course by the middle of May so will begin their new ministries in the Parish from June. We wish them every success with the training and I hope and pray that our congregations will support them as they begin to lead worship in the Parish. A non-Eucharistic service for the commissioning of the new Worship Leaders will take place on Sunday June 5th at 11.00am at St. Petroc’s Church led by Archdeacon Bill.

It all sounds very complicated I know but once we get going with the new pattern of worship in June I’m sure we’ll all get used to it. Just hope I don’t keep going to the wrong church!!!

Bless you all for being so understanding and positive to what we are having to do in order for me to look after my two “new” parishes.

A BIG THANK YOU-to everyone at St. Petroc’s, Padstow and St. Saviour’s, Trevone, who had a ministry of any sorts, in helping with the Holy Week and Easter Services. Thank you to my fellow retired priests Canon Michael and Canon Malcolm for all their support, over this busy time.
A special mention to all those who sent messages and cards to Gill wishing her a speedy recovery after her unfortunate accident on Maunday Thursday, during ‘The Watch’.
God Bless you all and thank you once again.
Fr. Chris.
