St. Petroc’s Padstow and St Saviour’s Trevone

“The Weekly News”   – February 28th 2016

A warm welcome to visitors who join us today

We pray that our presence here today and all our other actions, may prove our intention to follow Jesus day by day, and will be found pleasing to God.

Almighty God, whose, most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified:  mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen

 TODAY’S READINGS – (Page 823/825)

First Reading                                                                                                      Isaiah 55: 1-9

Accidents are not sent by God as punishment but he does invite us to seek him without delay. He gives freely and abundantly to all who act upon his call and trust his promises.

 Second Reading                                                                                   1 Corinthians 10: 1-13

We are not pre-Christians, with excuses for wrongdoing. We have Christ’s example as proof of God’s absolute love. We are not tested beyond our endurance but we ignore him at our peril!

Gospel                                                                                                              St. Luke 13: 1-9

Every day the peoples of earth face potential disaster, as individuals or nations. We need to get our relationship with God right in order to cope. Christ is our answer.

Merciful Lord, grant your people grace to withstand the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil, and with pure hearts and minds to follow you, the only God; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

 Psalm 63, verses 1-9 (Trevone)

1 O God, you are my God; eagerly I seek you; ¨ my soul is a thirst for you.

2 My flesh also faints for you, ¨ as in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.

3 So would I gaze upon you in your holy place, ¨ that I might behold your power and you glory.

4 Your loving-kindness is better than life itself ¨ and so my lips shall praise you.

5 I will bless you as long as I live ¨ and lift up my hands in your name.

6 My soul shall be satisfied, as with marrow and fatness, ¨ and my mouth shall praise you with joyful lips,

7 When I remember you upon my bed ¨ and meditate on you in the watches of the night.

8 For you have been my helper ¨ and under the shadow of your wings will I rejoice.

9 My soul clings to you; ¨ your right hand shall hold me fast.

Would you like to serve on the PCC?

Elected members of the PCC serve for three years and then cannot be re-elected for one year so that it gives as many as possible the chance to serve on the PCC.  This year Janet Dawe, Peter Crawford and Lilian Martyn (Padstow) and Jane Saunders (Trevone) all retire and we thank them for their devoted service to the PCC for the past three years. There has also been a vacancy for Trevone this year so we have 3 vacancies for Padstow and 2 for Trevone.

There are application forms at the back for both churches for you to complete if you would like your name to go forward for election at the Annual Meeting.  Please hand your completed forms to either Fr. Chris of your churchwardens.

Thanks again to all who have served on the PCC this year.

Fr. Chris

Padstow:-  On Saturday, 5th March at 2 pm, the St Petroc’s Flower Team will be meeting in the Church Rooms to make posies and we would welcome any help either in making the posies or a donation of small flowers or suitable foliage. A bucket for donations of flowers or foliage will be placed in the flower corner in Church a few days before Saturday, 5th March.

Please do come along if you can, we usually make about 70 posies (help can always be given). It is always an enjoyable afternoon and nice to have a cup of tea and chat at the same time!

PLEASE have an open mind about our new services as you will have your opportunity to say what you think. We will be looking for your feedback at the APCM on March 9th so we can choose the style of services YOU would like in the parish. The PCC will then make the final decision after the Annual Parochial Church Meeting and the decided pattern of services will be put in place in April.

Fr. Chris
