St. Petroc’s Padstow and St. Saviour’s Trevone
(The Presentation of Christ in the Temple)
“The Weekly News” – JANUARY 31st 2016
Introduction and call to worship
Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. As they
brought Jesus to be dedicated for service, let us offer ourselves to God’s service.
Almighty and ever-living God, clothed in majesty,
whose beloved Son was this day presented in the Temple,
in substance of our flesh:
Grant that we may be presented to you with pure and clean hearts,
by your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
TODAY’S READINGS (Page 788/789)
Old Testament Reading Malachi 3: 1-5
Prophesying Christ, Malachi speaks of his coming among them to refine and to purify; and to prepare Israel for judgement.
Second Reading Hebrews 2: 14-18
Jesus, came from God and became man, so that in suffering, in temptation, in dying and in rising, he might atone for our sins and free us to follow him into glory.
Gospel St.Luke 2: 22-40
Mary and Joseph consecrate Jesus to the Lord. Simeon looks upon the child and beholds the salvation of Israel; one destined to bring about the falling and rising of many, and a light also for the Gentiles; that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. Anna too, who devoted her life to prayer, recognises Jesus as the Messiah.
Lord, you fulfilled the hope of Simeon and Anna, who lived to welcome the Messiah:
may we, who have received these gifts beyond words, prepare to meet Christ Jesus when he comes to bring us to eternal life; for he is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen
THE CHURCH ELECTORAL ROLL
Under the Church Representation Rules between Sunday January 31st and Sunday February 14th we have our annual revision of the Electoral Roll.
Please contact our Electoral Roll Officer, Mrs. Betty Tucker (532889) at Padstow (or Fr. Chris at Trevone who is happy to pass any information or questions to Betty for you). Please ask for a form to complete if you would like your name on the Roll. If your name is on the Roll you are a “member” of the Anglican Parish of Padstow. Being on the Roll entitles you to vote at the Annual Parochial Meeting on March 9th and serve of the P.C.C. if elected. This is also the time to check that your name is on the Roll or to ask for it to be removed if that is your wish. We have to have an accurate Roll for the Annual Meeting.
