The Weekly News” – JANUARY 10th 2016
The Parish Of Padstow (St. Petroc’s Padstow & St. Saviour’s Trevone)
THE FIRST SUNDAY OF EPIPHANY (The Baptism of Christ)
A warm welcome to visitors with us today.

Jesus baptises with the Holy Spirit and with fire. As we worship him today, let us
open our hearts and minds to receive this special baptism.
THE COLLECT
Eternal Father, who at the baptism of Jesus revealed him to be your Son,
anointing him with the Holy Spirit:
grant to us, who are born again by water and the Spirit,
that we may be faithful to our calling as your adopted children;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God. now and for ever. Amen.
Today’s Readings – (Page 775/776)
First Reading Isaiah 43:1-7
The Lord has called his chosen ones by name, and will be with them through thick and thin. Nothing will overwhelm them, for they are precious in his sight.
Second Reading (Padstow only) Acts 8:14-17
The Samaritans had been baptised in Jesus’ name, but they needed more. After prayer and the laying on of hands by disciples, the Samaritans received the Holy Spirit.
Gospel St. Luke 3:15-17, 21-22
John baptised people, but baptism with the Holy Spirit is also necessary. When Jesus was baptised, the Holy Spirit filled him and God spoke to him.
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Lord of all time and eternity,
you opened the heavens and revealed yourself as Father
in the baptism of Jesus your beloved Son:
by the power of your Spirit complete the heavenly work of our rebirth
through the waters of the new creation;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

HAVE YOU SEEN OUR NEW UPDATED WEBSITE?
A very big thank you to Sîan Howells for giving her time and expertise to give the parish an updated website. We can “tweet” and “Facebook” and all sorts of exciting things now and you can even get a copy of this “Weekly News” online so I’ll have to bit a bit careful about what I write in future!! Seriously Sîan, thank you so much – it looks so modern and attractive which is just what it needed.
Have a look at www.padstowparishchurch.org.uk and you’ll be surprised at what
Sîan has achieved for us.
Thank you,
Fr. Chris.

so we can choose the style of services YOU would like in the parish.
The PCC will then make the final decision after the Annual Parochial Church Meeting
and the decided pattern of services will be put in place in April.
Fr. Chris
