“The Weekly News” – JANUARY 3rd 2016
The Parish of Padstow St. Petroc’s Padstow & St. Saviour’s Trevone
A warm welcome to any visitors with us today
THE EPIPHANY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST
Intention of the day
Epiphany celebrates the extravagance of God who desired all the peoples of the world to hear his message of redemption through the birth of Jesus.
O God, who by the leading of a star manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: mercifully grant that we, who know you now by faith,
may at last behold your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
PSALM – for Morning Prayer is number72
Today’s Readings – (Page 771/773)
First Reading Isaiah 60:1-6
The glory of God shines from heaven drawing all people to himself and overcoming the darkness of unbelief and despair. The morning star rises, the light has come.
Second Reading (Not used at Morning prayer) Ephesians 3:1-12
Christ’s message is for everyone in all times and places. St Paul suffered in sharing the Good News to prove this truth. We all share the mystery and the redemption.
Gospel St. Matthew 2:1-12
We cannot keep God to ourselves. When others come, offering themselves in service let them take from us some meaning to this mystery that they may impart it to others.
POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Lord God, the bright splendour whom the nations seek: may we who with the wise men have been drawn by your light discern the glory of your presence in your Son, the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
